ALBUM REVIEW: Almost Dead – Destruction Is All We Know

In 2024, opening your album with a song about warheads falling from the sky is not only timely but casts you as the needed herald of this year’s coming apocalypse and Almost Dead proves themselves to be up for the job on the aptly titled, Destruction Is All We Know (Innerstrength Records).

While they mix thrash and hardcore influences, an important detail when you take into consideration the thrash bands whose names stood the test of time, are those that did so by writing songs that were not only memorable, but employed singers whose voices stood out and did not default to having the vocals a mere obligatory afterthought. Something that metal strayed from over the past decade, but Almost Dead don’t fall prey to.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Splitknuckle – Breathing Through The Wound

Having a band named Splitknuckle evokes certain ideas even before you’ve heard the music. Violence, aggression, possibly-self-inflicted pain. Such ideas are only amplified in the title of latest album Breathing Through The Wound (Daze Records) and yes, the music within very much follows these initial impressions.

Housecore Records Recording Artists Nest, Child Bite, and Snafu To Open Select Pantera and Lamb of God Shows Next Month

Heavy metal icons Pantera will return to the stage this February on the second leg of their North American headlining tour with special guest, Lamb Of God. Much like last Summer’s run, each show will feature an opening performance by one of three Housecore Records recording artists on select dates. Housecore Records was founded by Pantera frontman Philip H. Anselmo in an effort to release material by his many side projects and from other bands he’s supported throughout his career. Joining this leg of the tour will be St. Louis-based metal trio and recent Housecore Records signees Nest, featuring Scour/Agoraphobic Nosebleed bassist John Jarvis, as well as two Detroit juggernauts – art punk/noise metallers Child Bite and hardcore punk/thrashers Snafu (Situation Normal All Fucked Up) — both of which opened for Pantera in 2023.Continue reading

Dimebag Darrell Abbott of Pantera Died 19 Years Ago Today

December 8th marks the anniversary of the death of Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott of Pantera and Damageplan. Today is the 19th anniversary of his murder of while on stage at the former Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio. That venue has now been demolished.  As we do every year on this  date, we prefer to cherish Darrell’s memory and honor how he lived. Almost 20 years later no one can deny his impact as a player, songwriter, and major personality in metal. While controversial, the current world tour from the reformed version of Pantera is a tribute to Darrell and his late brother Vinnie Paul. Jam out to some classic Dimebag and Pantera tracks and raise a glass or smoke (or both) to the legend of legends on guitar! Getcha pull!
