ALBUM REVIEW: The Callous Daoboys – Celebrity Therapist

Celebrity Therapist (MNRK Heavy / Modern Static Records) is the brand new LP from the six-piece Atlanta noise merchants, who announced themselves to the world with their debut EP My Dixie Wrecked in 2017 and have since continued to consistently put out new music including the Animal Tetris EP and their acclaimed 2019 LP Die On Mars which was also re-released as an instrumental version. ALBUM REVIEW: Simple Plan – Harder Than It Looks

The very nature of Simple Plan’s hotly anticipated sixth record, Harder Than It Looks (Self-Released) is actually doubly prophetic. The French-Canadian fourpiece have kept it rather simple indeed since they hit it big with ‘I’d Do Anything’ way back in 2002. Not known as a hugely poetic or introspective lyrical band, the pop punkers instead let the music do the talking in all its springy, bobby greatness. That’s not to say the means by which to achieve this is easy, hence the album title.Continue reading

COVID-19 Crowdfunding Campaign Launched to Support The Worcester Palladium and The Webster Theater

The Palladium, Worcester, MA 11/22/19

An Indiegogo campaign has been launched to support the employees of both The Worcester Palladium and Webster theatre, two venues in New England that have been hosts to thousands of metal, hardcore, and rock shows and countless other events for decades. In addition to hosting now retired events such as The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and the Rock N Shock Convention, last years amazing Self Help Fest by A Day To Remember the venues have hosted bands such as Blink-182, Bring Me The Horizon, Chelsea Grin, Ensiferum, Evanescence, Eyes on Satellites, Fall Out Boy, Fathom Farewell, Four Year Strong, Gov’t Mule, Gwar, Hatebreed, Ice Nine Kills, In Honor Of, Jerry Garcia Band, Jimmy Eat World, Kanye West, King Diamond, Korn, Logic, Motionless in White, My Chemical Romance, Nightwish, Of Mice & Men, Periphery, Protest the Hero, Reveille, Rob Zombie, Senses Fail, Sic Vita, Slayer, Sonata Arctica, Soundgarden, Straight Line Stitch, Suicide Silence, Twelve Foot Ninja, Twenty One Pilots, Tyler The Creator, Whitechapel, Wiz Khalifa, and Years Since the Storm. The Damned Things – High Crimes

I’d love to travel back in time and run into a much slimmer and naïve high school version of myself and let him know that we screwed the pooch and elected an asshole as president (worse than Bush) and that a member of Anthrax would collaborate with some of the dudes in Fall Out Boy. Then I’d leave him alone because all of that would likely give him some sort of brain aneurysm. But hey it’s 2019 and here’s The Damned Things‘ sophomore effort, High Crimes (Nuclear Blast).Continue reading

SECT – No Cure For Death

Informing me that a band features the talents of Fall Out Boy drummer Andy Hurley probably isn’t the best way to sell me on their album, but I’m glad I swallowed my ignorance. I mean, you should’ve told me that Hurley is super talented and that he’s flanked by members of Cursed, Catharsis and Earth Crisis in SECT. Combine those mega-powers with uber-producer Kurt Ballou and the fabled GodCity Studios and you’ve got a hell of a blast of Entombed-core in No Cure for Death (Southern Lord).
