Ihsahn Shares “Twice Born” Single with Two Videos from Upcoming Double Album

Norwegian progressive metal visionary, Ihsahn has just released “Twice Born.” This is the second single from his forthcoming, eponymous, eighth album, due out February 16th, 2024 via Candlelight Records. The long-player will be issued in two twin parts; one prog metal, one fully symphonic. Similarly, “Twice Born” comes with two videos, representing the different sides of the album. The video for the metal version was filmed by Shaun Hodson at Loki Films. For the orchestral version of the track, an animated visualiser by Costin Chioreanu has been created. Graspop Metal Meeting, one of the most acclaimed metal festivals in the world has finalized more names for their 2024 new lineup. Final headliner Alice Cooper has joined the bill with 83  other bands for year 27! Bruce Dickinson, Corey Taylor, Deep Purple, Electric Callboy and Megadeth as part of 130+ other bands. The fest takes place from Thursday 20 June through Sunday 23 June 2024 at Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, November 25th at the link below.

EP REVIEW: Ihsahn – Fascination Street Sessions


 

Ihsahn is a true living musical legend who helped shaped the modern symphonic sound of Black Metal with his work across the four albums Emperor produced between 1994 and 2001, particularly with their debut In The Nightside Eclipse which is perhaps the quintessential release of the genre. And although Emperor are still of course touring and Ihsahn has in the 2000’s released music with his Thou Shalt Suffer and Peccatum projects, the focus for the Norwegian musician has undoubtedly been on developing his solo career.

ALBUM REVIEW: Ibaraki – Rashomon


Ibaraki is the new solo project from Trivium’s Matt Heafy, and Rashomon is released through Nuclear Blast, having been over a decade in the making. The name translates as “Wild Trees”, but is also taken from a terrifying Japanese demon of feudal legend, and the concept is a profound affirmation of Heafy’s Japanese-American heritage, incorporating a number of different musical styles. Although the main inspiration clearly sits within the black etal genre, taking influence from the experience of Emperor’s Ihsahn, who co-produced, and whose quirkier ideas from his solo work are peppered throughout the release.
