Chicago’s newest music venue, Avondale Music Hall, announces a brand-new metal festival – Heavy Chicago – offering three shows happening over two weekends this fall. Saturday, October 28 will host the return of Chicago’s own Trouble after five long years, along with Acid King featuring the return of Chicago native Lori S, plus stoner rock act Bongzilla from Madison, Wisconsin, and Chicago act Novembers Doom to kick off the night. The following weekend, Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 keep Heavy Chicago rolling with a Saturday night headlining spot from Corrosion Of Conformity and support from California space rockers Nebula as well as Milwaukee’s The Crosses featuring Die Kreuzen singer Dan Kubinski for an “all Die Kreuzen” set. The Rave/Eagles Club is an acclaimed live entertainment complex located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a one-of-a-kind spot to catch a heavy metal show. The multi-stage and multi-floor building has a fascinating history and many music groups consider playing there a “rite of passage” as performers. The Milwaukee Metal Fest was launched in 1987 by music enthusiast and promoter Jack Koshick, which became one of the most renowned festivals for the heavy genres in the 1990s and early 2000s. All the greats from Slayer to Meshuggah to the Misfits were all part of the impressive lineups throughout the years until it shut down in 2004. After being absent for nearly twenty years, the fest has been brought back to life by Hatebreed‘s Jamey Jasta. He bought the rights in 2022 and put together a fest to take place on Memorial Day weekend at The Rave with some of the scene’s biggest bands. Continue reading

This cover version brings a singular C.O.C. swagger and sludge-laden groove to the classic track. This ‘On The Hunt’ cover lands shortly before C.O.C. kick-off their forthcoming three-week tour across the UK and Europe, set to include performances at Desertfest London, Desertfest Berlin, and Soulstone Gathering in Krakow. Be honest. If you were one question away from winning the jackpot on a TV quiz show and the smug, over-smiley host asked you, “what is the capital of Angola?”, would you really be going home with a massive cheque or just left stood there sullen and regretful, wishing you’d paid more attention in Geography class?

The Wellmont Theater in Montclair NJ was burning inside when Ministry, Melvins and Corrosion Of Conformity took the stage on Saturday night.
The theater itself seats about 2000 people with general admission on the floor which is perfect for a swirling mosh pit. Built in 1922 as an old vaudeville house, it was enovated and reopened in 2008. Now under the Live Nation umbrella, it hosts some major acts and The Montclair Film Festival. It should be noted that if you are going to a show there, plan to arrive early as parking can be a challenge of Herculean proportions.
