Einherjer – Norrøne Spor

The first time I crossed swords (!) with Norse warriors Einherjer was shortly after the release of the stellar blackened Viking Metal opus Odin Owns Ye All (Century Media) when they impressed on a bill that included Cradle of Filth and the underrated Old Man’s Child. The next stages of their career, however, were not so kind on the band, as they struggled to establish themselves, or really kick on.Continue reading

Very few bands do so quite so vividly and entirely as Greek progressive metallers Raw In Sect have done, however. With a starkly ever-changing sound across previous releases, latest effort Kitro (self-released) sees a bold direction which fully embraces Greece in both terms of lyrical content and the nations more traditional music.Continue reading

Santeri Kallio of Amorphis Talks Queen Of Time

After several decades it would be completely forgivable for any band to ease their foot on the peddle as it were, but then again Amorphis are no ordinary band. It is well documented how they weathered a substantial transition in style through the 90’s from death metal with the classic Tales From The Thousand Lakes (Relapse) into a much more melodic entity with Elegy (Relapse) two years later.Continue reading
