As a result of years of persistence and hard work in exploring the immense depths of their own resonances, Jakarta-based post/sludge/power metal collective Amerta embarks on a new profound milestone through the release of their first full-length entitled Nodus Tollens (Self-Released). Through this release, this Indonesian multi-genre unit invites their listeners to venture on an enigmatic journey fueled by existential dread, contemplations, and the inner conflicts that mankind collectively faces against the banality of everyday chaos and mayhem in the form of an in-depth listening experience. ALBUM REVIEW: Thot – Delta
With a previous formidable track record consisting of three full-length concept albums, four experimental EPs, and a myriad of remixes and rearrangements to note, Belgian Industrial/Post-Rock unit Thot are resurfacing into the ever-dynamic civilization with their fourth studio album, Delta (Pelagic Records), which is a powerful amalgamation of everything all at once: people, places, spaces, and times that have shaped the band’s identity and helped form the integral parts of the band’s trajectory of life throughout the years. It envisages many forms of hope and perseverance against all odds – with all its atmospheric complexities and all-around-resonant distortions. Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: Harm’s Way – Common Suffering
Normally I defend how anger is not the only emotion found in heavy music, but the new Harm’s Way album, Common Suffering (Metal Blade) is full-force rage, so strap on a helmet and get ready to fall into madness. Through the years, the Chicago-based band has really hit their stride with an even mixture of death metal and hardcore punk, bonded together by industrial blasts.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Allochiria – Commotion
The trajectory of the Greek sludge/post-metal unit Allochiria’s career started pretty long ago in 2008. To this day, they have released a self-titled EP and three full-length LPs to note. While being strong on post-metal coded slow-paced progressions, they also incorporate a touch of hardcore nuance manifested by how vocalist Irene presents inclement blackened growls on their songs. And, so, they are back on releasing a full-length, which is also their third one, titled Commotion via Venerate Industries.

FESTIVAL REVIEW: Oblivion Access – Various Venues – Austin, Texas
After a two year postponement, Oblivion Access Festival finally happened! Although I couldn’t attend all four days of festivities, I drove up to Austin, TX on Saturday to catch the legendary hardcore Youth of Today! It only took over three decades to finally see them lol. The festival was quite an undertaking, involving a lot of local Austin venues on 5th, 6th, and 7th Street. After 3 /12 hours of driving I was ready to stretch my legs, get some blood moving and stay cool in the humid Texas heat. Picking up my passes was a breeze as there were signs posted at Native Hostel directing you to the kind staff who greeted people with friendly smiles and words of encouragement to enjoy themselves.
