FESTIVAL REVIEW: Maryland Deathfest XIX Part 2 – Live at Various Venues

Day 4 – Sunday

 What a difference a day makes. May 26th marked the last day of this Maryland Deathfest, my birthday, and my one-year anniversary (my fiancé flew in to join me for this day). 

This was a wild day. Security was smoother but there were so many sets to see to finish the day. Some of them, legendary, and I was sure to catch a little bit of a lot today. I took my fiancé to see the marketplace lined with tents, each filled with merch and metal-adjacent goods.  My fiancé had a one-day pass, which we would come to find meant she could not go inside to the two main indoor venues. We found a way to do so, however, (first accidentally, then by luck), and we caught parts of twelve different sets. It was wild.Continue reading →

Long-running Belgian Metal Festival Alcatraz 2024 has announced their full lineup! Taking place August 9-11 with a pre-party with Tribute bands on the 8th! Headlined by Architects, Amon Amarth, and Opeth, other bands on the bill featured are Clutch, Cradle Of Filth, Hatebreed, Satyricon, Mayhem, Paradise Lost, Exodus, Watain, Dark Tranquility, Spiritbox, Korpiklaani, Jinjer, Life Of Agony, Armored Saint, Madball, Tnfofficial, Lord Of The Lost, Orden Ogan, Finntroll , Septicflesh, Orange Goblin, Soilthe, Benediction, Brant Bjork, Eclipse, Raven, Terrorizer, Misery Index, Heathen, Green Lung, Legion Of The Damned, Massacre, Monkey3, Cro-Mags, Truck Fighters, Bodysnatcher, Cripple Black Phoenix, Fen , The Casualties, Exumer, Skeletal Remains, Left To Die, Audrey Horne , Thronehammer, and many others are booked for the festival. Legendary Oslo Black Metal Landmark and Record Store Neseblod Suffers a Fire

According to a published report by VG News in Norway, Oslo record store Neseblod Records has suffered a fire and a major loss of business. As of now, it is unknown how extensive the damage is, but in the article, the owners feared a total loss, especially historic memorabilia from the store and the first and second wave Black Metal scene.Originally known as Helvete (“Hell”) the record store was owned by Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth. In addition to the meta and rock store, the basement housed the Black Circle club where the Norwegian Black Metal scene formed and bands such as Aarseth’s band Mayhem and many others that sprung from the store employees and its denizens. The store was also immortalized in the Aarseth biopic Lords of Chaos by Jonas Ackerlund. In addition to a crucial piece of metal history, the store had continued to be a tourist attraction and a tour stop during Inferno Metal Festival’s popular annual Black Metal History tour. We’ll continue to track this story as it develops. Continue reading →
