As a genre, Indie Rock hit its peak in the mid-2000s, as bands like Arcade Fire and Death Cab for Cutie became mainstream, thus causing bands to branch off into the post-punk branch of punk rock. Activity’s new album A Thousand Years in Another Way (Western Vinyl) takes you back to the last great days of indie rock. The album opens in a tense, more brooding mood than their previous work. They balance this out with the fragile plea of the pained tenor vocals. The trembling urgency of this vocal approach brings Radiohead to mind. Continue reading →

Levitation festival is back, but at the new location of Palmer Events Center, with additional venue programming across Austin’s Downtown Red River District. The event delivers lineups spannning psych, dream pop, punk, indie, metal, darkwave, electronic and all genres in between. This year’s edition – taking place September 25-28 – features The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Mastodon, Acid Bath, Pavement, TV On The Radio, A Place To Bury Strangers, Blood Incantation, and more. FESTIVAL REVIEW: Oblivion Access – Various Venues – Austin, Texas

After a two year postponement, Oblivion Access Festival finally happened! Although I couldn’t attend all four days of festivities, I drove up to Austin, TX on Saturday to catch the legendary hardcore Youth of Today! It only took over three decades to finally see them lol. The festival was quite an undertaking, involving a lot of local Austin venues on 5th, 6th, and 7th Street. After 3 /12 hours of driving I was ready to stretch my legs, get some blood moving and stay cool in the humid Texas heat. Picking up my passes was a breeze as there were signs posted at Native Hostel directing you to the kind staff who greeted people with friendly smiles and words of encouragement to enjoy themselves.
