FESTIVAL REVIEW: Maryland Deathfest XIX Part 1 Various Venues
What a difference a day makes, revenge of the new day…
Today was a bumpy day for us festival attendees: it was over 90 degrees, which really impacted a lot of people, particularly with the addition of the second outdoor stage; and a new security checkpoint was put in place toward two of the more popular stages, and we were all pat down every time we went through it, meaning that running back and forth to catch bands could take an extra ten minutes or so. Obviously important, it was disruptive for a while and caused some confusion and delays. With the emergence of the marketplace, TONS of new merch was being bought from dozens of vendors and this initially increased the delay (something to plan for next time). The delay also meant I had to move around much sooner each set than desired. Continue reading

FESTIVAL REVIEW: Milwaukee Metal Fest 2023 Live at The Rave – Eagles Club
The Rave/Eagles Club is an acclaimed live entertainment complex located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a one-of-a-kind spot to catch a heavy metal show. The multi-stage and multi-floor building has a fascinating history and many music groups consider playing there a “rite of passage” as performers. The Milwaukee Metal Fest was launched in 1987 by music enthusiast and promoter Jack Koshick, which became one of the most renowned festivals for the heavy genres in the 1990s and early 2000s. All the greats from Slayer to Meshuggah to the Misfits were all part of the impressive lineups throughout the years until it shut down in 2004. After being absent for nearly twenty years, the fest has been brought back to life by Hatebreed‘s Jamey Jasta. He bought the rights in 2022 and put together a fest to take place on Memorial Day weekend at The Rave with some of the scene’s biggest bands. Continue reading

Earning himself a reputation as a serious collector, Wagner has curated an impressive collection spanning decades of horror cinema including one-of-a-kind posters, screen-used artifacts and more from legendary films. His top 2 favorite horror movies are John Carpenter’s “The Thing” and Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws.” Wagner has both a dedicated “Thing museum” and a “Jaws museum” in his Chicago home.
