For over eight years, Dana Schechter and Ashley Spungin created heavy, eerie soundscapes as Brooklyn-based duo Insect Ark. When this fragmented last year, with a new album and US tour in the pipeline, leading force Schechter found herself in a tight corner until a serendipitous union with former SubRosa drummer Andy Patterson enabled the renewed probability of both. ALBUM REVIEW: Lord Mantis – Universal Death Church

It’s no secret that Charlie Fell has issues. Anyone reading the few interviews he gave to promote Death Mask (Profound Lore Records), his last outing with Chicago’s Lord Mantis prior to his acrimonious departure from the band, won’t fail to be staggered by some of the personal revelations feeding his lyrical contribution to that album. Coupled with the tragic loss of revered drummer Bill Bumgardner in 2016, it was hard to see a way for the soul of this truly disturbing entity to continue forward: yet here we are with Universal Death Church (Profound Lore Records), Fell back behind both bass and microphone and re-absorbed by the nucleus of Andrew Markuszewski, fellow returnee Ken Sorceron and honorary fifth member, vocalist Dylan O’Toole.Continue reading →

Musician artist and activist Amanda Palmer has shared a podcast interview with Lingua Ignota. The episode is a teaser of Amanda’s forthcoming podcast series, launching sometime this fall. Palmer highlights the music of Lingua Ignota, a.k.a. Kristin Hayter and discusses how she became a fan, and then interviews the artist where they connected on many subjects. They chatted when Kristin opened for AFP at South By Southwest this past spring. Her new album Caligula released on July 19th via Profound Lore Records. Full of Hell – Trumpeting Ecstasy

It is not very common where an album hits me right in the chest upon first listen. Full of Hell has been able to do just this with their latest release, Trumpeting Ecstasy (Profound Lore). Twenty four minutes is all it takes to deliver a world of chaos and blistering grindcore by these Maryland natives. The only moments where the album is not blasting your face off is when the noise plays between some of the tracks. Pallbearer Discusses Their Signature Sound, Heartless, And More!

Pallbearer released Heartless to the masses last month, and as Hans Lopez said in his 8/10 review, this band was “faced with the Herculean task of following up 2014’s Foundations of Burden, and they’ve passed with flying colors.”
