Jinjer’s latest US tour brought a blend of musical tastes that delivered on many levels. As before, I bought the meet and greet package for this run. This one ended up being a bit more special. Being limited to 15 people per venue, this current iteration included an exclusive VIP shirt, signed poster, a Jinjer bag, photo ops and you could bring up to five items to be signed. But the most intriguing part of this package was being able to watch their soundcheck, which included the songs “Pearls and Swine” and “Pieces!” It was nothing short of magical. It was akin to having the band playing just for you in an intimate setting. Afterwards, we were able to go on stage and see what the bands sees as they stare out into the vast venue playing for the fans. Another plus was being able to talk with all the band members and ask questions about anything. Hope they continue with this version of meet and greets, it’s truly something that I want to experience again.Continue reading

CONCERT REVIEW: Boston Manor – Trophy Eyes – Split Chain Live at O2 Ritz Manchester
First up tonight are Bristol collective Split Chain. Having only released their first single just over a year ago this group’s star has risen rapidly. Calling back to that late nineties / early 2000s Grunge/Nu-Metal sound the group bring the nostalgic vibe with a modern twist. ALBUM REVIEW: The Barbarians of California – And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth
The sound of what was once considered West Coast Hard Core is changing. The Barbarians of California‘s new album And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth (oneRPM) carries more of a metallic stomp aligned with modern Hardcore. Right from the first song you can hear the band’s more experimental edge. Once into the meat of the album, they bridge hardcore with a Nu-Metal sound, which is not unlike what System of a Down does. They attack with a more spastic jerk. It’s hard not to appreciate the sense of adventure that runs through these songs. The new generation of nu-metal kids who attend festivals like Sick New World will dig it. Hardcore purists might have some questions. Continue reading

Since then, The Funeral Portrait have been hard at work, honing their craft putting out singles here and there, all culminating with their second album, Greetings From Suffocate City. Looking to spin a tale across the album, the band are bringing theatrical charm and themes into their works.
