The remaining living members of Soundgarden have not played together since Chris Cornell died in May of 2017 and the subsequent 2019 tribute concert in Los Angeles. Last night in Seattle at the legendary Showbox Theater the band reunited with local post-Grunge / Soul singer Shania Shepherd to perform a short set of Soundgarden hits, deep cuts, and a cover as The Nudedragons for the Smooch Children’s Hospital benefit show. The band were also joined by Guns N Roses bassist and friend Duff McKagan who also performed tonight. They played “Kickstand” and covered “Kick Out The Jams” by The MC5. Small Stone Recordings, which is famous for the renowned Acid King and Wo Fat listed in their roster, sure got their thing going by releasing An Earlier Time (Small Stone Records), the third studio album of none other than Sundrifter. Having been around since 2012, the Boston-based desert rock trio has left significant marks through their 2016 debut Not Coming Back, and their 2019 sophomore album Visitations. Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre’s MC5 Tribute Album (Alice Cooper, Jello Biafra, Phil Campbell and More) Out Now
On Friday February 2nd the Rock ’n’ Roll world was saddened the passing of “Brother” Wayne Kramer, founding member and guitarist of the legendary, influential Detroit band the MC5. Issued on Black Friday, 2023 via Saustex Records Call Me Animal: A Tribute to the MC5 was never intended as a send-off for Brother Wayne, but his untimely passing makes its recent release feel even more serendipitous. Conceived by Joey “Joecephus” Killingsworth, the album was several years in the making with his band/collective Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre and his production partner Dik LeDoux. Kramer himself participated in the project, laying down a smoking version of “Human Being Lawnmower” with Jello Biafra.

Marc Urselli’s Steppendoom present their unique take on Soundgarden’s doomy classic “4th of July”. This beautifully strange rendition features an actual member of Soundgarden in drummer Matt Cameron (also Pearl Jam) as well as Igor Sydorenko of Ukraine’s Stoned Jesus, multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes (Chris Cornell solo, Queens Of The Stone Age, Eleven, Them Crooked Vultures) and throat singers Utelo and the legendary Albert Kuvezin (of Tuvan throat singing collective YAT-KHA).

ALBUM REVIEW: Royal Thunder – Rebuilding The Mountain
This band from Atlanta transcended the vest metal tag assigned to them early on, to become one of the most underrated new acts to coast under the radar of mainstream rock. The lengthy seven-year break since their last album did not help this, but Rebuilding The Mountain (Spinefarm Records) finds the band taking inventory of their demons before returning, reconfigured, with drummer Evan Diprima back in the fold.
