ALBUM REVIEW: Umlaut – Désolé

Post-Mr Bungle’s dissolution in the early 2000s, Clinton “Bär” McKinnon relocated to Melbourne, Australia with stacks of material he’d written originally for the Eureka, California eccentrics. Thereafter, the formation of Umlaut followed, and a line-up that currently reads as the aforementioned McKinnon – Tenor Sax/Flute/ Clarinet/Keyboards/Guitar/Lead Vocals, Angus Leslie – Guitar/Backing Vocals/Keyboards, Bassist Shane Lieber, and recent addition Danny Heifetz (ex-Bungle) on Drums.

Faith No More’s Mike Bordin Discusses The Bands’ Hiatus and The Status of Mike Patton with The Band

In a rare interview, Faith No More, former Ozzy and Korn drummer Mike “Puffy” Bordin joined the Let There Be Talk podcast with Dean Delray, and gave a two-hour discussion on many topics. Although hesitant to drop any bombshell news, he did give an update on the status of Faith No More and why the band has not resumed touring or any activities. This follows similar comments recently from Roddy Bottum. Bordin says he can only speak for the members he is in touch with: Bottom and Billy Gould. Three and a half years after canceling their tour at the last minute in 2021 performances, citing frontman Mike Patton’s mental health struggles and other issues, Bordin implied that Patton is now not interested in working with the band anymore. FNM members are also unhappy that Patton has continued to tour sporadically with Mr. Bungle. As of now the band has no future plans, and Bordin discussed the band in the past tense. He also discussed past relationships with Jim Martin, Chuck Mosely, praised Courtney Love, replacing Randy Castillo (RIP), his current project with his former Ozzy touring bandmates Joe Holmes and Robert Trujillo, and his lifelong love of San Francisco. Continue reading

Former Mr. Bungle Saxophonist Theo Lengyel Found Guilty of The Murder of His Girlfriend

According to a published report from AP, Theo Lengyel, formerly a saxophonist and songwriter with Mr. Bungle, has been found guilty of murder by a Jury in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, a Capitola, California resident. AP reported that this guilty verdict on the charge of first-degree murder arrived after one day of deliberation from the jury, with Lengyel now facing life in prison. His sentencing is set to take place next month. “It’s over, but it’s not. It’s not really. It’ll never really be over,” a friend of Herrmann, Amy Miyakusu, said. The verdict comes off new evidence presented last week to the jury, an audio recording from Herrmann’s phone which captures the exact moments of her death, said to be chilling to hear when played in court, submitted as the damning and ultimately linchpin piece of evidence. The Capitola Police Department took Lengyel into custody on Tuesday, January 2nd, after he was previously labeled a “person of interest” in the case. Herrmann’s relatives reported her missing on December 12th, prompting a missing-person investigation. During the investigation, her vehicle was discovered in front of Lengyel’s residence. Investigators faced challenges in getting Lengyel to cooperate, and eventually identified him as a suspect in connection with Herrmann’s disappearance, suspecting foul play. Notably, Lengyel had traveled from El Cerrito, California, to Portland, Oregon, around the time of the incident.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: The Jesus Lizard – Rack

Twenty-five years since their dissolution and Noise-Rockers The Jesus Lizard are back, with the classic line-up of Mac McNeilly – Drums, David Wm Sims – Bass, Duane Denison – Guitar, and David Yow – Vocals now fully restored. A quick history lesson for the uninitiated, the band formed in Austin, Texas in 1987 from the ashes of Scratch Acid, before relocating to Chicago in 1989. From there they would go onto put out a string of groundbreaking releases including a split single with some band called Nirvana, who you may have heard of. Continue reading

FESTIVAL REVIEW: Milwaukee Metal Fest 2024 Part 2 – Live at The Rave

The lineup for Saturday was stacked, in my opinion,  headliner Mr. Bungle left the Milwaukee crowd in awe. Mike Patton is such a great front man so I felt privileged to watch this man perform again.  San Francisco Thrash Metal legends Testament has one of the best performances I had ever seen them give in years. Connecticuts’ own Hatebreed ignited the ballroom with numerous mosh pits throughout their set. Continue reading
