Death Metal is in rude health. It is a status that has been brewing and broiling over the last ten years, with pushes and spurts in pocketed sub-sub genres, until now the whole scene, and its multitude of variants and mutations and off-shoots, feels like it is not just doing alright, but burgeoning with a lush virility unseen since it’s fomentation some thirty years ago.
Slovenian extreme Metal band Noctiferia is releasing a Laibach tribute album, Reforma, coming out in May on Blood Blast Distribution. For the first single and video – “Now You Will Pay” they enlisted a guest appearance by Metal legend David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel, I Am Morbid) which is killer. Laibach is one of the most underrated bands of all time and Noctiferia has put their own, brutal stamp on the track, making it a must-hear!
Legendary Death Metal frontman, Outlaw Country solo artist and music industry personality David Vincent will release his autobiography in 2020. I Am Morbid was written with best-selling author Joel McIver (Max Cavalera, Bass Player Magazine) and will release via Jawbone Press in February of 2020 in paperback and ebook formats. It will also be available in a deluxe hardcover collector’s edition, strictly limited to 100 copies — of which, full details to be announced soon. Ahead of the book’s publication, David will be touring across Europe with VLTIMAS throughout January and February 2020. Swedish Black Metal greats Waitain have run into trouble trying to enter the USA for their tour beginning tonight in Houston, TX with Morbid Angel and Incantation. According to a lengthy post to Facebook, the band’s guitarist was detained, interrogated and mistreated by US Border Authorities sent guitarist Pelle Forsberg back to Mexico, where he was staying prior to the first tour date in Houston. The post claims that the authorities used Google Search to find evidence that Pelle was anti-American should not be allowed in the country, despite having a current and active work Visa and entering for five prior visits without incident. The rest of the band also had issues entering the country but managed to get in today after rebooking flights and having lawyers advocate for them. and without their guitarist, they will perform as a reconfigured four-piece. Sad news has come down as former Morbid Angel guitarist Richard Brunelle, early crucial member of the legendary death metal band, has died. He was 55. Brunelle Brunelle was in the band from 1985 until 1992 and he featured on the band’s first two albums, 1989’s Altars of Madness and 1991’s Blessed Are The Sick. He returned to the group a couple of times — most notably in 1994 and 1998 to be part of the touring lineup, but would never record with the band again. The news of Richard’s death was broken by his sister-in-law Megan Box-Brunnele. She wrote on Facebook: “This is Richie’s sister-in-law. This devastating post is at the request of my husband and his mother. It is with deep regret and sorrow that we inform Richie’s friends and fans that he passed away [on Monday]. Please feel free to visit the link to share memories and condolences. Rest in peace, Richie. You were so loved and will be forever missed.” Former Morbid Angel drummer Pete Sandoval mourned Richard’s death on Instagram. He wrote: “This is really sad! So many great memories we shared together that I’ll never forget, hope and wish you are in a better place. My condolences to his family.
“I just received an email of his family letting me know about this sad new, please, a little respect guys, don’t ask me the cause of death or something like that, does it matter? he just passed away and that’s sad. Thanks”

The Big 4 Charity Tribute Concert, the annual event benefitting the Music Drives Us charity in the Boston Area will host its concert this coming weekend. Taking place at Sammy’s Patio in Revere, MA, Augusts 16th and 17th it features the best metal bands from the Boston-area performing as the great metal bands to ever exist, night one is focused on Death Metal with an opening set from Dygara, while night two will see “The Big 4” of thrash music performed.
