Hellfest 2020 is Officially Canceled, 2021 Fest Announced

Crushing news for the summer festival season in Europe, as France’s legendary Hellfest, has been canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The festival announced today it was unable to host the festival, which takes place in Clisson, France, outside of Paris. Hellfest 2021 is already announced for next summer. The 2020 edition was to have had Faith No More, and Down will be joined by Deftones, System Of A Down, Incubus, Korn, Mastodon, Opeth, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, The Offspring, Infectious Grooves, The Darkness, Obituary, Death DTA (the Death tribute featuring members of Death), At The Gates, Entombed AD, Sacred Reich, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Mayhem, Abbath, Rotting Christ, Primordial, The Great Old Ones, Wardruna, The Hu, Taake, Watain, Alcest, Borknagar, Gaahl’s Wyrd, Electric Wizard, Baroness, Om, Witchcraft, Black Mountain, Elder, ASG, Envy, Mono, John Garcia & the Band of Gold, High On Fire, Pelican, Killing Joke, Perturbator, Life of Agony, 3TEETH, Inter Arma, Body Count, Suicidal Tendencies, Youth of Today, Slapshot, Jesus Piece, Higher Power, Social Distortion, Anti-Flag, Agnostic Front, Reverend Horton Heat, Grade 2, Code Orange, and more. Anselmo and the Illegals) “depression core” project En Minor has signed a new record deal for Europe and Ward in Japan, with the great label Season of Mist. Kirk Windstein to Reunite with Down for Their 25th Anniversary Tour

In a new interview with Revolver, Kirk Windstein has confirmed he will reunite with Stoner Metal supergroup Down for the bands’ upcoming 2020 shows to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the release of their debut album NOLA. Kirk stepped down from the band in 2013 to focus on Crowbar and his family life. He also has his debut solo album coming in 2020. He was replaced by Bobby Landgraf, DOWN’s former guitar tech who was previously in Gahdzilla Motor Company, a 1990s outfit also featuring Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys, Watchtower), and Honky.Continue reading →

Down Books Appearance At Graspop Metal Meeting For “NOLA 25 Tour”

The long-rumored Down reunion is in effect for 2020! The first date of a presumed world tour celebrating the Stoner-Doom supergroup’s legendary debut album NOLA releasing twenty-five years ago next year will begin at Graspop Metal Meeting. The band features current and former members of southern metal greats Pantera, EyeHateGod, COC, Crowbar, Honky and more. The fest takes place June 18-20 in Belgium and added seventy new bands to the bill today, including Down. The announcement comes less than a month after singer Philip Anselmo revealed that the band was in talks to reunite in 2020 for some shows in celebration of the 25th anniversary. No word if former members like co-founder Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Kingdomm of Sorrow, Rex Brown (Pantera), or the recently retired again Todd Strange will participate. Continue reading →


Kirk Windstein (Crowbar/Down) Shares New Video, Debut Solo Album Due Next Year

One of the architects of Southern Metal and Sludge, Kirk Windstein is bringing forth his debut solo album. Best known for his work in Crowbar, Down and Kingdom of Sorrow, Windstein will release his debut solo album, Dream in Motion, January 24, 2020 via eOne Music. Kirk handled all vocal duties, guitars, and bass on the album, with drums and effects by longtime producing partner and collaborator, Duane Simoneaux (Crowbar, Down, Exhorder). The album features new originals and The a faithful rendition of ‘Aqualung’, the title track of Jethro Tull’s 1971 masterpiece.
