Danko Jones have just finished work on their yet-to-be-announced 12th studio album, tentatively due out in autumn 2025. For its release, they have signed to the Perception record label, part of Reigning Phoenix Music. The first single from the album, “What You Need,” will be available for streaming from April 4, just before the outfit to kick-off their 2025 festival season at Paaspop (NL). Find out more below.

Cryptopsy Wins The 2024 JUNO Award for Best “Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year” for their Album “As Gomorrah Burns”
Cryptopsy has won their first JUNO Award (the Canadian version of the Grammy’s) in the “Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year” category! The band won for their album As Gomorrah Burns, out now via Nuclear Blast Records (read our review here)! Cryptopsy won defeating past winners Voivod and KEN Mode, as well as Danko Jones, and Kataklysm. The 2024 Juno Awards kicked off on Saturday evening (March 23) at the Opening Night Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia. To be considered for a nomination at the 2024 Juno Awards, national music release dates had to fall between the eligibility period of September 1, 2022 and November 2, 2023.

Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre’s MC5 Tribute Album (Alice Cooper, Jello Biafra, Phil Campbell and More) Out Now
On Friday February 2nd the Rock ’n’ Roll world was saddened the passing of “Brother” Wayne Kramer, founding member and guitarist of the legendary, influential Detroit band the MC5. Issued on Black Friday, 2023 via Saustex Records Call Me Animal: A Tribute to the MC5 was never intended as a send-off for Brother Wayne, but his untimely passing makes its recent release feel even more serendipitous. Conceived by Joey “Joecephus” Killingsworth, the album was several years in the making with his band/collective Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre and his production partner Dik LeDoux. Kramer himself participated in the project, laying down a smoking version of “Human Being Lawnmower” with Jello Biafra.

Archspire Won The “Heavy Music Album of The Year” at The Junos
The Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, were held this past weekend, with the ‘Opening Night Awards’ ceremony, which was held at Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto on Saturday (May 14th, 2022), and the main ceremony for broadcast on May 15th, 2022. In an upset, Archspire won “Heavy Music Album of The Year” for their stellar album Bleed The Future which released via Season of Mist in 2021. The Technical Death Metal band won against a crowded field of great nominees, including Spiritbox, Danko Jones, The Agonist, and Brand of Sacrifice. The broadcast was hosted by Simu Liu, star of the box-office smash Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This was the first in-person Juno ceremony in three years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ALBUM REVIEW: Annihilator – Metal II
There’s a fine line between “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and “there’s always room for improvement”, and more often than not the re-recording of old albums usually falls snugly into the former category. No matter how much more accomplished the revised version might sound from a technical standpoint, the overall results rarely change. Lightning in a bottle cannot be captured twice.

Not content with sitting on their hands, Brazilian thrashers Sepultura decided early on during the Coronavirus Lockdown to do something constructive with their new found spare time. After touring plans for their current record were cut short by the pandemic, the band contacted seemingly everybody in the world of metal and proceeded to embark upon Sepulquarta (Nuclear Blast), a live album recorded with each member in isolation.
