Mutants (Sargent House) is album number three from Stephen Brodsky’s heavy, quirky and often colourful side-project Mutoid Man. And much like his work in Cave In, the music Brodsky creates with Mutoid Man encompasses a whole host of influences, to create a myriad of sounds.
Sonic Temple Art And Music Festival returned to Columbus, Ohio for the first time after taking three gap years.
Let’s begin with a little context. The inaugural instance of Sonic Temple was in 2019. Leading up to the event, festival promoter Danny Wimmer Presents (DWP) had discontinued an arrangement with AEG Presents to jointly produce Rock On The Range, the festival in Columbus, Ohio that Sonic Temple replaced. So, Sonic Temple needed to be different enough from Rock On The Range to dispel any raised eyebrows about the move. DWP also broke off ties at about the same time with AEG for their jointly created Carolina Rebellion festival and started a new one in its place called Epicenter. While those moves might have been sound business decisions, it still turned out to be a tough year for DWP festivals.
The pop-punk genre will never die. It’s fresh, fun, sometimes a bit silly, and wholly needed in a world full of stress and hate. People need music that makes them happy. People need music that will put a smile on their faces. People need music that will invoke a fresh breeze, wind in their hair, and a joyful being. Our favorite desert rockers Queens of the Stone Age are back just in time for the weather to heat up. It’s been a tic since I’ve heard a doomy sludgy style album that I enjoyed. After a while it becomes rote. It all sounds the same. Boston Calling has announced the lineup for its 2023 festival, taking place over Memorial Day weekend, from Friday, May 26, to Sunday, May 28, at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston. Headliners include Foo Fighters and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Friday), The Lumineers and Alanis Morissette (Saturday), and Paramore with Queens of the Stone Age (Sunday). Foo Fighters were one of the headliners announced for 2022, but canceled that appearance after the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
