EP REVIEW: Atreyu – The Moment You Find Your Flame

Over the past decade, the once-notorious metalcore band, Atreyu have been going through a metamorphosis of sorts. From breakdowns and screams to grand sing-along choruses and arena-rock sounds, the band seems like they’ve set their sights and hearts on a sound dedicated to a bigger space, arenas, and stadiums instead of their frequented small academy slots where the band originally gained fame. This of course has been met with a strong mixture of love and derision from fans and foes alike since the release of their album In Our Wake. With the last album receiving polarising reviews across the board, will the latest of a collection of EP projects, The Moment You Find Your Flame (Spinefarm) allow the band to start winning back audiences and critics alike?

Wacken Open Air Struggles with Flooding from Torrential Rainstorms, As its Organizers Vow to Put On The Festival

Awful weather is plaguing Wacken, Germany – the home of this week’s legendary Wacken Open Air Festival. The festival grounds and surrounding areas have had massive flooding and continued storms putting the event in doubt, and causing many fans to be unable to attend. Still, in spite of the dire weather and at times dangerous conditions according to a published report from the AP, the festival organizer Thomas Jensen has shared a message, hoping to put on the festival somehow. The festival has limited capacity, has done a lot to direct fest-goers to shelter, safety, food (and beer), and seem to be pulling out all the stops in an effort to carry one. We have several friends and colleagues at Wacken and hope for their safe return. WOA 2023 is headlined by Iron Maiden, Dropkick Murphys, Megadeth, Jinjer, Beartooth, and many more artists. Please see a series of messages on the fest’s Facebook group and we’ll bring you more news on this as it develops.

FESTIVAL REVIEW: Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival, Live at Crew Stadium Part 1

Sonic Temple Art And Music Festival returned to Columbus, Ohio for the first time after taking three gap years.

Let’s begin with a little context. The inaugural instance of Sonic Temple was in 2019. Leading up to the event, festival promoter Danny Wimmer Presents (DWP) had discontinued an arrangement with AEG Presents to jointly produce Rock On The Range, the festival in Columbus, Ohio that Sonic Temple replaced. So, Sonic Temple needed to be different enough from Rock On The Range to dispel any raised eyebrows about the move. DWP also broke off ties at about the same time with AEG for their jointly created Carolina Rebellion festival and started a new one in its place called Epicenter. While those moves might have been sound business decisions, it still turned out to be a tough year for DWP festivals.
