Portland’s epic post-Metal quintet Alltar (stylized as A//tar) dropped their crushing début album, Hallowed, last month via Monochord Records. The band favors moments of moody simmering dynamics and crushing flourishes of heavy riffs and synths. Ghost Cult has teamed up with the band to bring you their haunting new video for ‘Horology’. Directed and edited by bassist Casey Braunger, the video makes a perfect use of trippy Twin Peaks imagery and brain-warping time-lapse work, the clip is perfectly matched to the track. Watch it now! Chrome Waves To Release Unreleased Material This Fall, New Album in 2020

Post-metal group Chrome Waves will release The Cold Light Of Despair, a collection of both new and previously released singles, covers, and more. The record drops November through guitarist Jeff Wilson’s independent label Disorder Recordings. Following nearly five years of silence, Chrome Waves was revamped and relaunched in 2018 with a new lineup containing former members of Wolvhammer, Nachtmystium, Abigail Williams, Amiensus, and more. The band issued their excellent and highly anticipated debut LP, A Grief Observed, on their own in early 2019, after which it was picked up by Avantgarde Music for vinyl and European release. The band has toured several times throughout the year with the likes of Tombs, Without Waves, Amiensus, and others, and several covers, singles, and more have seen digital release along the way. Cave In‘s aptly-titled Final Submission (Hydra Head) is a collection of recordings made with the band’s late bassist before his tragic death last year and contains much input from the man himself. Varaha – A Passage For Lost Years

At this point in the game, it is quite difficult for musicians to find something “new” or “original” in terms of genres. Having said that, there are groups out there that continue to push genre boundaries to make something special. Chicago natives, Varaha, have done just that with their debut full length, A Passage For Lost Years (Prosthetic). Mixing post-metal, black metal, and gothic doom, Varaha has recorded quite a journey that is sure to touch upon many emotions. As a bonus, nine tracks seem to fit perfectly in terms of length where you get the whole message from this album, but it does not overstay its welcome and grow stale.Continue reading →
