When it comes to American influences in Metal, it’s far from out of the ordinary to find European acts adopting a more U.S.-friendly sound to grow musically or widen their fan base. It is a little more unusual, however, to find American bands who look to Europe for inspiration. Especially when that influence goes back thirty years.

Grand Cadaver are another Death-Metal ‘supergroup’ who much like Bloodbath are unashamedly re-visiting the sound of their youth, and the iconic nineties Swedish style made famous by the likes of At The Gates, Entombed, et al.

Although lockdown was undeniably a desperate time for the entertainment business, for some, the time spent in isolation actually created opportunities. With schedules and timetables suddenly emptied, many long-standing ideas and projects, that for whatever reason, looked set to never get off the ground, were finally able to grow and develop into something more than a mere hopeful nucleus of an ideaContinue reading
The temperature was almost in the single digits last Saturday evening when Dark Tranquility brought their Moment tour to Detroit’s northern suburbs. The poorly plowed roads and the negative degree wind chill did not deter Michigan metalheads from witnessing the trailblazers of Gothenburg’s Melodic Death Metal Scene. Everyone briskly trotted into Pontiac’s acclaimed music hall to catch the two opening acts of the evening. Nailed to Obscurity and Kataklysm were invited along on this tour which made for a deliciously stacked bill. Built in 1830, the Crofoot building is a historic phenomenon and local treasure. The large building contains three venues in one and is known for catering to heavier bands. This prized entertainment complex was a fair choice for a night of big, blistering, music.
We caught up with Mikael Stanne of Melodic Death Metal legends Dark Tranquillity. The bands’ new album Moment is out now via Century Media Records. We talked to Mikael all about the new album, changes in the band with Niklas Sundin taking a step back from the band and adding Christopher Amott (ex-Arch Enemy) and Johan Reinholdz (Nonexist) to the band, changes in the music industry over time, the incredible artwork of Moment, created by Sudin, and much more. Interview by Keefy. Purchase and stream the album here https://darktranquillity.lnk.to/MomentID, and check out our chat. Continue reading
Melodic Death Metal pioneers, Dark Tranquillity, release their twelfth studio album Moment (Century Media Records). The twelve-song album began recording shortly after founding member Niklas Sundin announced his departure from the band (Editor’s note: although he is still involved with the band behind the scenes) on their social media platforms, after touring members, Christopher Amott (ex-Arch Enemy) and Johan Reinholdz (Andromeda) formally joined Mikael Stanne, Anders Jivarp, Martin Brändström, and Anders Iwers as part of the official dT lineup.
