FESTIVAL REVIEW: Exit 111 Festival 2019 – Manchester, Tennessee

Exit 111 Festival, aptly named for the highway exit in Manchester TN, made its début October 11-13, 2019. Arriving in powers of three, it was three days of riffs, rock, and rowdiness. One part Metal, one part Rock, one Southern rock, and a whole lot of nostalgia, the event hosted three stages: the Rise Above Stage (honored suicide awareness and featured many of the Classic rock/Southern rock acts), Heaven Stage (the main stage and home to the headliners), and Hell Stage (spotlighted mainly heavy artists).Continue reading →

Watch Deftones Play “Smile” Live For the First Time Ever, and Other Songs at Dia De Los Deftones

Deftones held its second annual  Dia De Los Deftones festival yesterday at Petco Park in San Diego, California. Among the bands, setlist was the previously released but never played live non-album track, ‘Smile’ as a tribute to late bassist Chi-Cheng. The song comes from the so far album unreleased Eros, an album recorded with Cheng but was shelved when he was in a car accident, coincidently on November 3rd, 2008. That accident led to a coma, a long time waking-non-responsive-state, and ultimately his death on April 2013. Eros has gained almost mythical status with die-hard fans. The band released ‘Smile’ to YouTube only on the one year anniversary of Cheng’s death, Deftones are expected to release a new album in 2020 and perhaps this is a sign that Eros may finally happen in some form. American Satan, the 2017 movie Directed by Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen will see a television sequel Paradise City soon. The film starred and featured music from many Sumerian cornerstone artists with a score co-written by Jonathan Davis of Korn. The series stars Black Veil Brides leaders Andy Black and Ben Bruce, along with Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellen Quinn and many others.
