Look, this is a genuine effort to fend off waves of tweets and horseshit comments like “well, everybody in metal borrows from somebody” or “not everybody is reinventing the wheel.” As someone who’s only been listening to extreme music for the last twenty-five years, I think I get it. Metallica? More like we love Diamond Head. Slayer? Oh, you mean Venom if they actually knew how to play their instruments? Sepultura? Slayer if they were even better at their craft?
San Diego Death Metal greats outfit Cattle Decapitation will release their next album, their tenth, Terrasite, coming on May 12th, 2023 via Metal Blade Records. produced by Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Khemmis, Archspire) and with distinctive and horrifying artwork from Wes Benscoter (Vader, Kreator, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy), Terrasite is dedicated to the memory of Gabe Serbian, former Cattle Decapitation drummer, who died last year. Metal masters Amon Amarth have been chasing the peasants away for thirty years. They are presently on tour in support of The Great Heathen Army (Metal Blade) record that came out earlier this year, and they brought along Cattle Decapitation, Obituary, and Carcass for the ride.
Disquisition On An Execution surpasses the confines of being a meager release. It’s The Last Ten Seconds Of Life’s eighteen-minute soundtrack to accompany a lecture on the best way to snap a victim’s neck in one fell swoop. The four-track EP – courtesy of mammoth label Unique Leader – is an inescapable assault – a hodge-podge of dense, declarative deathcore. Fits and starts of feral madness fuel the Pennsylvanian foursome.

I’m not going to start this write-up and pretend like I have a solution for grief or that I’ve made peace with the fact that Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder is no longer with us. As of this writing, it’s been nearly a week since his passing and frankly, I’m still trying to process that. Telling myself that it can’t be true since I’ve seen Strnad and his bandmates have seemingly all the fun onstage at least seven times.
In time I’ll accept what has occurred. But let’s take a look back.
Cattle Decapitation was used as walkout music for AEW wrestler Erick Red Beard, a huge metalhead for often shares his metal favorites with fans, during the AEW Rampage!
