Following on from last year’s incredible and sold out (and probably best so far) 10th Anniversary event, the much loved and mighty award-winning Arctangent Festival returns this summer, and can today reveal another host of amazing acts for the event. To kick things off we have two more headliners for the festival. Firstly playing their first ever ATG are Norwegian band Wardruna, who will be bringing their Norse musical interpretations and traditions to the festival as our Wednesday night headliners. With this incredible band now in place, the Wednesday for this year’s Arctangent Festival will be its biggest ever, with more stages open to accomodate, but still no clashes! Then we have the brilliant UK prog rock band Tesseract, who will be returning to ATG and headlining the main stage on Saturday this year, closing out an intense two year touring period of their album War Of Being. What a difference a day makes, revenge of the new day…
Today was a bumpy day for us festival attendees: it was over 90 degrees, which really impacted a lot of people, particularly with the addition of the second outdoor stage; and a new security checkpoint was put in place toward two of the more popular stages, and we were all pat down every time we went through it, meaning that running back and forth to catch bands could take an extra ten minutes or so. Obviously important, it was disruptive for a while and caused some confusion and delays. With the emergence of the marketplace, TONS of new merch was being bought from dozens of vendors and this initially increased the delay (something to plan for next time). The delay also meant I had to move around much sooner each set than desired. Continue reading
This year’s Damnation Festival is the second since it has returned to its original home of Manchester after many years at the University of Leeds. The festival had outgrown the confines of its erstwhile venue and now takes place at Manchester’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre across three large stages. Continue reading

The Ahab frontman and mainstay has, since 2004, imbued into doom metal a unique, untouchable style of singing which surpasses anything else heard to date. It’s matter-of-fact, informative and in a class of its own.
North Carolina’s Wailin Storms are intriguingly described as shapeshifting, atmospheric noise rockers, and I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that particular epithet at first. However, within the first few minutes of their latest album The Silver Snake Unfolds, (Gilead Media), I got the idea, and after subsequent listens I knew exactly what they meant. Continue reading
