ALBUM REVIEW: Arch Enemy – Blood Dynasty

Perennial all-stars Arch Enemy are back at it with their twelfth studio offering titled Blood Dynasty (Century Media Records). With this new cut, the band stays true to form delivering a blistering lineup of eleven cuts of pure brutality. Track after track we are bludgeoned with instruments wielded at virtuosic levels. Guitars are on full blast in every respect, from driving riffage that hits full throttle to solos that divebomb and shred everything in sight, one-second soaring in the clouds and the next stomping holes in the earth. ALBUM REVIEW: Rwake – The Return of Magik

After a thirteen-year break between albums and a hiatus, the band Rwake is back with a new cut titled The Return of Magik (Relapse Records). Sonically, Rwake has always been a band that fits into no specific genre and that is on full display on this newest effort. The musicianship on display only adds to the tremendous songwriting that has this feeling of a grand saga playing out before the listener.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Fleshbore – Painted Paradise

Today on the block we have the new cut Painted Paradise from Indianapolis’ own Fleshbore. If I had to wrap this new cut in a single word it would probably be “blistering”. Everything on this cut is at an 11 even when they decide to slow it up the listener is sitting with crazy anticipation for the next time the pedal gets stomped on. The drums and guitars scream through each track like crazy ass racecars from hell whose pilots have tossed the brakes aside long ago. (see what I did there lol)! Continue reading

EP REVIEW:  Howling Giant – Howling Giant (10th Anniversary Reissue)

Today on the block we have a cut that I cannot believe is ten years old. The cut I speak of is Howling Giant’s self-titled EP. This release would come crashing onto the Cosmic Rock scene. What they deliver on this cut is this soaring sound that comes at you through the endless bound for the stars.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Hexenbrett – Dritte Beschwörung: Dem Teufel eine Tochter

Today on the block we have Hexenbrett. If you are a fan of guitar-driven Black Metal, look no further than this new offering. On their sophomore effort, we are treated to some super hooky riffage, mixed with enough ambiance and atmosphere to keep everything nice and evil. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Vosforis – Cosmic Cenotaph

Hello friends, hope all is well, let’s dive right in.

This week on the block we have, hailing from the U.K., Voforis with their debut cut Cosmic Cenotaph (Inner Hell Records). Studying up on this one, the project is led by Simon White, and I learned he is joined by former Cradle of Filth members such as guitarist Richard Shaw, vocalist/keys player Anabelle Iratni, drummer Adrian Erlandsson (also of At The Gates and The Haunted) on one track, and famed Cradle producer Russ Russell, so I went in with some preconceptions as to what I was in store for. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Bedsore – Dreaming The Strife For Love

Hello friends, quick question, what do you get when you mix prog rock with metal? Well short answer, you get the Italian based band Bedsore. This statement, although true falls very short though, of defining what this band is presenting on their new cut Dreaming The Strife For Love (20 Buck Spin.)Continue reading
