With another calendar year of stellar heavy, alternative and progressive music behind us, we continue our countdown of the best of the best albums, as voted for by the Ghost Cult global team. People Power Part I took us from 70 through to 26, Part II took us down the back straight, ticking off albums 25 to 11, and now we come round the final bend and as Part III presents the albums that charted 10 through 2 of the Ghost Cult Albums Of The Year, 2018.
It’s upon us again… After six years and many listens to 2012’s Book Burner, Pig Destroyer have unsheathed Head Cage (Relapse) their sixth full-length in a career spanning two decades. The fact that we continue to get new music from Pig Destroyer seems baffling. Like Converge or Refused, Pig Destroyer are in the unique position of being able to rest on past accomplishments and make good money playing the Summer festival market.

Decibel brings their excellent Metal and Beer Festival out west as they launch the next edition of the popular event in Los Angeles. Taking place at The Wiltern Theatre on December 1st and 2nd, the fest will feature amazing bands and craft brews galore. Testament will play a special set of classic albums classic The New Order And The Gathering in full, Thomas Gabriel Fischer and Triptykon will perform a special all-Celtic Frost set. For a metal fan, especially an underground metal fan with a cultured taste, Maryland Deathfest is the holy grail of music festivals. They are metal fans, so they understand metal fans. It has grown by leaps and bounds like a little cottage industry with California Deathfest, Quebec Deathfest, Netherlands Deathfest, Days of Darkness and more to come I’m sure. As I attended my first ever full weekend, I saw incredible bands on my bucket list, met a lot of great people from all over the world, hung out with friends and basically had more fun than I could imagine. It was basically summer camp for die-hard metal fans. No judgments, no fights, no fake kung fu in the mosh pit, just all awesomeness 24/7. Fun for families and even dogs. Damn, if it feels good to be a Death Metal fan. Last year’s extreme harvest gave us albums from Obituary, Artificial Brain, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Immolation, Decapitated, and Tomb Mold just to name a few. And so far, this year is shaping up to be another fruitful one with efforts from At The Gates, The Crown, Pestilence, Rivers of Nihil and Tomb Mold. Wait, what?
