CONCERT REVIEW: Mercyful Fate – Kreator – Midnight Live at Kings Theatre



Going to the King’s Theatre always feels like a pilgrimage if you don’t have a car. It’s a little trek from the closest train station. But, it’s worth it to see the legendary Mercyful Fate. The last I saw them was also in Brooklyn, in 1999 for the 9 album tour at the (former) “Rock Capital of Brooklyn”, L’Amour. So this was a hell of a size upgrade. I’ve seen all of these bands at different times. It’s fitting to catch them at such a fancy venue.

ALBUM REVIEW: Detherous – Unrelenting Malevolence 


 

Detherous is quickly becoming a band to pay attention to. Their 2019 debut, Hacked to Death was a balls-to-the-wall thrasher with a killer Kreator-meets-Death sound that easily put the band on many playlists. The Canadian band’s follow-up solidifies the group’s thrash meets death metal style with more unrelenting riffs, bombastic drums, and savage vocals that invoke the great Chuck Schuldiner.

Mercyful Fate Announces First North American Headlining Tour in Over Two Decades

Fresh off of their stunning headlining set at Psycho Las Vegas, Mercyful Fate has announced their first North American headlining tour in over two decades! The journey will commence on October 25th in Dallas, Texas, and ending on November 16th in Atlanta, Georgia. Direct support will come from Kreator and Midnight. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 9th.

ALBUM REVIEW: Sigh – Shiki


 

Four years after previous studio outing, Heir To Despair (Candlelight), Japanese avant-garde black metal act Sigh switch record labels once again and return with twelfth full length album Shiki (Peaceville). In their native language, the title translates into many different things such as ceremony, colour and motivation but the main themes present here are “four seasons” and “time to die”. A concept derived from a traditional Japanese poem, frontman Mirai Kawashima takes an existential approach to the seasons, watching cherry blossoms (a symbol of Spring) in full bloom while going through the Autumnal stage of his life with Winter just around the corner.Continue reading

Lamb Of God Postpones European Tour with Kreator Until 2022


Lamb Of God have confirmed that due to restrictions in various territories, they have had to postpone their intended ‘State Of Unrest’ UK headline tour until late 2022. Lamb Of God’s headline UK trek will now take place December 2022. German Thrash kings Kreator are still on the bill. Joining them are Thy Art Is Murder and Gatecreeper. Power Trip is now off the bill, following the passing of frontman Riley Gale in August of 2020.
