FESTIVAL REVIEW: Milwaukee Metal Fest 2023 Live at The Rave – Eagles Club
The Rave/Eagles Club is an acclaimed live entertainment complex located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a one-of-a-kind spot to catch a heavy metal show. The multi-stage and multi-floor building has a fascinating history and many music groups consider playing there a “rite of passage” as performers. The Milwaukee Metal Fest was launched in 1987 by music enthusiast and promoter Jack Koshick, which became one of the most renowned festivals for the heavy genres in the 1990s and early 2000s. All the greats from Slayer to Meshuggah to the Misfits were all part of the impressive lineups throughout the years until it shut down in 2004. After being absent for nearly twenty years, the fest has been brought back to life by Hatebreed‘s Jamey Jasta. He bought the rights in 2022 and put together a fest to take place on Memorial Day weekend at The Rave with some of the scene’s biggest bands. Continue reading
Shadows Fall is Working on New Music, but Has No Immediate Plans for a New Release
In a new interview with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed’s podcast The Jasta Show, Brian Fair of Shadows Fall shared a lot of past, present, and future details about the band. Shadows Fall is performing this weekend at Jasta’s rejuvenated Milwaukee Metalfest this weekend. Among the many anecdotes and stories shared by Brian, including previous reunion shows at the Worcester Palladium, Blue Ridge Rock Fest and Furnace Fest, he volunteered that the band is working on “the skeletons” of parts for new songs and promised some new “Shadows Fall music down the road.” Additionally, the band is not currently signed to a label, so Fair said the band will listen to all offers, but also doesn’t yet have a timetable currently for a release. The two-hour conversation is one of the most hilarious and informative Jasta episodes of late, so check it out and read Brian’s comments below.

ALBUM REVIEW: Lionheart – Welcome To The West Coast III
LHHC, baby.
Singer Rob Watson is one of the most adept frontmen in hardcore when it comes to being able to both hype up a crowd and tell grim, streetwise lyrical tales over bouncy grooves. Nothing has changed with their latest release, Welcome To The West Coast III (Arising Empire). While the series of ‘Welcome…’ releases started with an EP, it is now halfway to keeping pace with Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter albums. “Welcome” implies an introduction, but ironically the band no longer need one. Think of the title as more akin to an ongoing episodic documentary at this point.
Roadrunner United Release Celebrating The Iconic Label to See a Rerelease in 2023
Roadrunner United was a project organized by iconic hard rock record label Roadrunner Records to celebrate its 25th anniversary, culminating in the U.S. Billboard Top 200, UK Albums, and Australian ARIA Albums-charting original The All Star Sessions. Four “team captains” (Slipknot’s Joey Jordison (RIP), Machine Head’s Robb Flynn, Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K. Heafy) were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands. On December 15, 2005, a concert celebrating the project, album, and anniversary took place at the Nokia Theater in New York City. That star-studded event featured multiple musicians, both past and present, from Roadrunner bands — as well as musicians that did not originally perform on the All-Star Sessions album. Now that album is getting a release in 2023 on multiple formats. Watch the live performance video of “The End (Live)” featuring Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K. Heafy – right now!

ALBUM REVIEW: Corpsegrinder – Corpsegrinder
Since George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher joined Floridian death metal legends Cannibal Corpse in 1995, he has gone on to become one of the most highly respected figures in death metal and beyond. Not just for his fearsome guttural roar or for the unnerving ability to grow a neck wider than most people’s heads, but because underneath all the sweat, hair and spit he just seems so damn loveable. From his well documented obsession with World of Warcraft to donating toys to charities and hospitals, it’s quite astonishing how a man who regularly vomits up lyrics about dismemberment, blowtorches, necrophilia and evisceration has gradually developed into something approximating a role model.
