It seems like with every week that goes by another fresh batch of new “subgenres” enter the metal lexicon. You see Deafheaven can’t be filed under Black Metal because they’re really a Post Existential Crisis Alternative Shoegaze Latte outfit. Ice Nine Kills’ early stuff was metalcore, but nowadays they’ve drifted over to Slasher Showtunes. I wish good luck to whoever has to classify whatever Pyrithe’s Monuments to Impermanence (Gilead Media).

Metallica Announces Buffalo and Pittsburgh Shows with Greta Van Fleet and Ice Nine Kills This Summer
Metallica has announced its only two US shows this summer for Buffalo and Pittsburgh. The concerts will take place at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium on August 11 and Pittsburgh’s PNC Park on August 14 – both with special guests Greta Van Fleet and Ice Nine Kills! Tickets and travel packages for Pittsburgh go on sale now Tickets at 10 AM EST on Friday, March 4. If you’re a Fifth Member, you’ll have early access beginning Monday, February 28. As of now, aside from their show in Las Vegas, and Bottle Rock Napa, these will be the only Metallica gigs this year on their home turf. The band has resumed touring, but is also expected to make progress on a new album this year which means studio time.

Let’s take it way back to Warped Tour ca. 2004 as When We Were Young Festival has announced their 2022 lineup. A Punk, Emo, and Metalcore kids dream, the lineup includes headliners My Chemical Romance and Paramore. Other bands on the bill include Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, The Linda Lindas, Alkaline Trio, Thursday, AFI, Meet Me @ The Altar, Avril Lavigne, Senses Fail, The Wonder Years, ADTR, Ice Nine Kills, Black Veil Brides, Motionless in White, Atreyu, Four Year Strong, Palaye Royale, Acceptance, Anberlin, Knocked Loose, Silverstein, Bright Eyes, Dance Gavin Dance and more are among the bands announced. The frontman of Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman has canceled his appearance at Astronomicon convention in Ann Arbor, Michigan this weekend. Quickly shaping up to be the biggest music festival in the USA this year, Blue Ridge Rock festival has announced their full line-up of 180 bands. Headlining the massive 4 day festival are Five Finger Death Punch, Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, and Limp Bizkit. There is a special club warm up show which includes headliner Ludacris, T-Pain, and Lil Jon. Also on tap: the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow Revue, a vaudeville freak show of wonder by Hellzapoppin’s Ringleader and Producer, Mr. Bryce “The Govna” Graves. In addition, excitingly, the festival will be hosted by Steve-O (MTV’s Jackass); and special guest Lou Brutus (SiriusXM).
