ALBUM REVIEW: Malist – Of Scorched Earth
The one-man riff-driven Atmospheric Black Metal act Malist consists of none other than the ever-talented multi-instrumentalist Ovfrost, who “believes that evil dominates the world”. The project is notable for featuring recurring themes that circulate around tyranny, war, and reclusion. To this day, Malist has released four full-length studio albums in a relentlessly belligerent pace, with the fifth full-length, Of Scorched Earth coming via Avantgarde Music.

I was lucky enough to catch the Saturday Matinee, in true New York fashion. I opted for the 430 PM show in an effort to save my aging infrastructure from a night of TOTAL obliteration.
ALBUM REVIEW: Ghost Bath – Self Loather
The season of the witch is upon us!!!! With Halloween just days away, it seemed more than fitting to check out some new Black Metal. Why not listen to some truly “scary movie” music with my favorite holiday just at hand. With that being said, the new cut from Ghost Bath Is a musical force to be reckoned with.
Moros – Weapon
An effects-heavy floor tom pounds and reverberates sinisterly sounding like an unholy sub drop as a layer of distortion grows from the aether. Various squalls of feedback and twisted auditory hallucinations wrap their way around the percussion making ‘(vortexwound)’ a fittingly unsettling opening to Weapon (Hidden Deity). This segues into the first track proper, ‘We Don’t Deserve Death’, a creeping, sanguine number that evolves into a Rock paced rager. The instrumentation is crisp and bass heavy, perfect for the Sludge/Doom hybrid Moros are seeking to evoke.Continue reading
FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Damnation Festival 2018
Damnation Festival, the long-running extreme underground one-dayer in the UK, takes place once again at Leeds University for the 13th edition. Headlined by Napalm Death, Ihsahn (exclusive UK appearance), Entombed A.D., Vader, Annal Nathrakh and also featuring Batoushka, The Ocean, Ne Obliviscaris, Celeste, Rosetta and more. Taking place on four stages with over 30 bands, this is a can’t miss show. If you don’t already have tickets, bad news, it is totally sold out!
