Down Books Appearance At Graspop Metal Meeting For “NOLA 25 Tour”

The long-rumored Down reunion is in effect for 2020! The first date of a presumed world tour celebrating the Stoner-Doom supergroup’s legendary debut album NOLA releasing twenty-five years ago next year will begin at Graspop Metal Meeting. The band features current and former members of southern metal greats Pantera, EyeHateGod, COC, Crowbar, Honky and more. The fest takes place June 18-20 in Belgium and added seventy new bands to the bill today, including Down. The announcement comes less than a month after singer Philip Anselmo revealed that the band was in talks to reunite in 2020 for some shows in celebration of the 25th anniversary. No word if former members like co-founder Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Kingdomm of Sorrow, Rex Brown (Pantera), or the recently retired again Todd Strange will participate. Continue reading →


Kirk Windstein (Crowbar/Down) Shares New Video, Debut Solo Album Due Next Year

One of the architects of Southern Metal and Sludge, Kirk Windstein is bringing forth his debut solo album. Best known for his work in Crowbar, Down and Kingdom of Sorrow, Windstein will release his debut solo album, Dream in Motion, January 24, 2020 via eOne Music. Kirk handled all vocal duties, guitars, and bass on the album, with drums and effects by longtime producing partner and collaborator, Duane Simoneaux (Crowbar, Down, Exhorder). The album features new originals and The a faithful rendition of ‘Aqualung’, the title track of Jethro Tull’s 1971 masterpiece. Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals played a surprise show the other night in Brooklyn September 18th at Saint Vitus Bar. The tiny club held the Pantera/Down/Superjoint/En Minor/Scour legend performed a set of his solo work from The Illegals and Pantera classics he has been performing of late. Philip Anselmo Expresses Interest in a Down Reunion for 2020

In a new interview with Metal Underground, Philip Anselmo has expressed interested in a Down reunion in 2020/. Next year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Stoner Doom supergroup’s (Pantera, COC, Crowbar, EyehateGod) debut album Nola (East/West). Anselmo, whose 51st birthday was yesterday June 30th, also shared that any Down reunion must include Kirk Windstein who left the band several years ago to concentrate on Crowbar, be respectful of the many members’ projects, as well as his lack of interest in his Superjoint project any longer. Texas Hippie Coalition – High In The Saddle

When you get an album with the band name Texas Hippie Coalition, you have a set of expectations about what it’s going to sound like. A mental image of the music pops into your brain. Texas Hippie Coalition did not disappoint with High In The Saddle (Entertainment One). True to form, it’s Texas-style southern rock with a scruffy “edge” to the lyrics and followable 4/4 beats. If you like listening to Down, Black Label Society, or Southern Train Gypsy, Texas Hippie Coalition is almost but not quite totally unlike that. High In The Saddle straddles the line of rock and roll and country and does so admirably. Continue reading →

Corrosion of Conformity, continue to tour behind their excellent early 2018 release No Cross, No Crown, out now on Nuclear Blast. They have teamed up with their brethren in Crowbar for a US tour. COC frontman Pepper Keenan and Crowbar leader Kirk Windstein have a friendship that goes back decades and they were both members of doom metal supergroup Down from 1991 to 2013.
