Charlie Benante of Anthrax Details Collab with Public Enemy in a New Behind The Scenes Video


Anthrax has shared their second of their Behind The Scenes videos for their upcoming “Persistence of Time” Reissue. Anthrax’s collaboration with Public Enemy on their version of “Bring The Noise” is one of the greatest songs of all time, and is part of PE’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legacy. In a new behind the scenes video for Anthrax’s upcoming Persistence of Time reissue, drummer Charlie Benante takes you inside the history of this iconic team-up. During the Persistence of Time touring cycle, the two bands went out on the road together, the “Bring The Noise Tour” – Anthrax and Public Enemy, with Primus and the Young Black Teenagers supporting.  Watch the video now!

This six-part video series is hosted by Charlie, who assembled and oversaw the anniversary edition. The Persistence of Time 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition is set for an August 21, 2020 release (Megaforce Records), exactly 30 years after its original release. Available exclusively on disc and vinyl, the CD package will include two CDs and one DVD, the vinyl edition will offer four LPs as well as revised cover art that reflects what had been the album’s original visual concept. The 40-minute “guerilla-style” DVD was shot when Anthrax was on the “No Prayer on the Road” tour with Iron Maiden in 1991 and features live footage of Benante taking over the drums for Iron Maiden’s Nick McBrain, as well as backstage and dressing room footage with members of both bands. The piece wraps with Benante, Bello, and Ian joining Iron Maiden on stage for the final song of the night, “Sanctuary.”

Stars from across Rock and Metal will join together on a livestream to raise money tonight on the David Z Foundation Livestream. David Z (David Zablidowsky) was the brilliant metal and progressive rock musician best known for his work in bands such as Adrenaline Mob, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and ZO2, died three years ago on July 17th, 2017 when a tractor-trailer collided with Adrenaline Mob’s tour bus. Watch Mike Patton Join S.O.D. for “Speak Spanish or Die” from Quarantine


As we have been saying Charlie Benante has been killing it in quarantine, teaming up with many of his famous metal musician friends to play covers from quarantine. Now he has again reteamed with featuring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle) and they have done their classic song ‘Speak English or Die’, recast as ‘Speak Spanish or Die’. Mr. Bungle, fronted by Patton, played the song on tour this February. Last month S.O.D., which includes Benante, his Anthrax bandmate Scott Ian, and Dan Lilker, teamed up for renditions of ‘March Of The S.O.D.’ and ‘Chromatic Death’. Patton makes an appearance in the accompanying video as “The Lonely Rager,” complete with a cowboy hat and bandana mask. Watch it now!

Anthrax To Release 30th Anniversary Edition Of “State Of Euphoria” This Fall


Anthrax’s 1988 album State Of Euphoria is getting a deluxe reissue this fall from Island Records/Ume/Universal Music. The package was shepherded by drummer Charlie Benante and will consist of two discs: Disc One is the fully remastered album, all of the B-sides originally released in conjunction with the album, and ‘Antisocial’ recorded live in London at the Hammersmith Odeon in March of 1989. Disc Two, “Charlie’s Archives”, is a real treasure trove for fans as it puts you right in the room with the band as the album’s songs evolved. The package also includes a 20-page booklet that will take you right back to the time of the album’s release. The album will also be issued as a 2-LP set on standard black vinyl and limited edition red and yellow colored vinyl. Both versions are available for pre-order now.Continue reading

So Let It Be Written: The Biography of Metallica’s James Hetfield


If you know me at all, you know that Metallica is my favorite band of all time, and you know that James Hetfield is one of the biggest inspirations in my life. It’s been that way ever since I first heard Master Of Puppets in the hallways of my middle school, and the love for this band is still as strong today. When I heard that Mark Eglinton was working on the first and only biography of James Hetfield, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I’ve followed Hetfield’s career more than most, and any chance I have to learn more is a welcomed opportunity. While this book did not tell me anything that I didn’t already know, because I’m as die-hard at they come, it’s still a brilliant look into one of heavy metal’s most important icons. Continue reading
