Exclusive Premiere-The King Is Blind – Bloodlet Ascension

TKIB-1

Ahead of the unleashing of their debut album, the hotly anticipated Our Father on the relaunched seminal UK label Cacophonous Records on 29th January 2016, Monolithic Metallers The King Is Blind are delighted to team up with Ghost Cult Magazine to premiere the second advance track from the upcoming release.

Entitled ‘Bloodlet Ascension’, the track showcases a snappier side to the band and is further testament to the metal diversity on display throughout the album, while forming an integral part of the story of Our Father. Our Father is a dark and involved concept album discussing the true genesis of man and the origin of our multitude of deficiencies, adapted from various literary sources including Paradise Lost and The Book of Revelation. ‘Bloodlet Ascension’ is a pivotal moment where the story’s protagonist, Satan, forms his plan to subvert and claim mankind and issues a rallying call to his daemons, to ascend through claiming the bloodline of man.

Vocalist Stephen John Tovey added:

“Every track on the album feeds the central narrative, but beyond that, each track also delves into the murkiness of human behaviour and expands outside of the story and lyrically operates on at least three plains. ‘Bloodlet…’ on one hand tells a positive message of overcoming failure, or rising up when you’re knocked down, while on the other exploring vengeance, and the complexities and vagaries of it… even when someone has been rightly dealt with in the first place, often the response is that it isn’t “their” fault, there’s always someone else to blame, and rather than reflect and take responsibility, instead disproportionate responses are planned in rage, anger, even  using those flags as justification when the planned act far outweighs the initial event that caused the feeling of wrong doing.

“There is no black and white, everything is grey. It often depends on your point of view, and which side you’re standing with. There are no right answers, only more questions with which to challenge yourself. The point of it all is to ask questions. To push the listener to evaluate who they are, how they’d react and is their response not justified, but right.

“As with each track, the music and the lyrics match the emotion of the narrative, and ‘Bloodlet Ascension’ is a suitable rousing, riling, roiling, cascading call to arms.

“Subjects of The King, prepare to RISE, prepare to ASCEND!”

Our Father is released on Cacophonous Records on 29th January 2016.

The King Is Blind play an exclusive show at Black Heart, London, where they will be playing the concept album in its entirety on Sunday 31st January 2016. Support comes from Obscene Entity and Shrines. Tickets can be purchased here.

Exclusive Song Stream: The Old Wind – Wooden Scythe

12310587_563907270426511_5075227771672679058_n

Ghost Cult is pleased to premiere the stream of the new track from The Old Wind, ‘Wooden Scythe’. The track comes from their split EP with Cult Of Luna, Råångest (Pelagic Records) dropping January 29th. You can stream ‘Wooden Scythe’ track below:

The Old Wind features members of The Ocean and Breach and the will have another new song on Råångest. Cult of Luna he heard covering Amebix’s ‘Last Will And Testament’, the last recording for the band before they go on hiatus later in 2016.

The title of the EP, Råångest, means raw anxiety in Swedish. LA-based German artist Florian Bertmer drew the cover. In a Facebook post, the band commented on the meaning of the album:

RÅÅNGEST.
The title itself is a big part of where we come from.
As much as we love the beauty and clarity of the north,
it can be a struggle. 5 months of darkness and harsh cold can definitely do stuff with your mind. For a lot of people living in the north anxiety is the main dish on the dinner table…

Us and the guys from COL can all relate to this when this is our birthplace and where we grew up. We come from the same scene and it feels like our thoughts and musical ideas are a pure reflection of our origin and the way we project it. The outcome of the harvest is RÅÅNGEST.

Råångest EP track listing:
1. Cult Of Luna – ‘Last Will And Testament’
2. The Old Wind – ‘Wooden Scythe’
3. The Old Wind – ‘Daughters Of Cleanse’

Exclusive stream: False Flags new track ‘Pet Wolf’

False-Flags-13

False Flags 2015

As the build-up continues ahead of the release of False Flags‘ debut mini-album Hexmachine, Ghost Cult are pleased to continue our association with the technical-hardcore miscreants from northern England by bringing you the stream of a new track, ‘Pet Wolf’ from the soon to be released mini-album.

Ghost Cult recently caught up with vocalist Chris Jenkinson (in a feature you can read here), who had this to say about the subject matter of their new outpouring:

The lyrics are kind of weird, really. Each song has a theme but they’re not really about anything in particular. Most of the time we come up with the title first, then I try to write around that. Charlie came in one day and said “Can we call a song ‘Pet Wolf’?” So that ended up being about one of my Chihuahuas being a little shit!

I’m a big fan of lyricists like Cedric Bixler (The Mars Volta) and John Congleton (The Paperchase) so I try to do that “interpret it how you like” kind of thing.

False Flags – ‘Pet Wolf’

Hexmachine, which the band will be releasing themselves, spurts abrasive, disjointed rock and takes inspiration from the likes of Unsane, Breather Resist, Botch and Coalesce. It will be released on 20th November.

The album launch show takes place at Bad Apples in Leeds, also on 20th November.

Exclusive Stream: AllFather – ‘Blood Red Sunset’

BRS pic

A chimaera of Sludge, Metal, Doom and Hardcore, the Medway (UK) has disgorged a barrel of riffs and grooves from the febrile minds of AllFather, riff-mongers almighty.

As a teaser of what shall be, and to bridge the gap between their self-released digital EP No Gods, No Masters and 2016’s impending Bless The Earth With Fire, for which the band are currently seeking a suitable label home, Ghost Cult are pleased to exclusively stream ‘Blood Red Sunset’, the EP’s bonus track, and a reworking of AllFather’s first ever song.

Vocalist Tom affirms:

The power of the riff compels us, and G̶o̶d̶ Iommi guides our hand. Like chucking Conan the Barbarian and Godzilla into a bear-pit, only the best ideas come out, bloodied, but alive! AllFather take those bloodied ideas and battle-hardened riffs and deliver their own brand of metal. Whether taking the sadistic advocates of austerity and racism to task, or revelling in the way the sun glints off a raised battle axe, AllFather recognise that the world is a hard, cruel fucking place, and write songs big enough scare off the darkness.

With a bonus track this good, one can only guess the quality of the upcoming release:

You can download the band’s earlier material on a pay-what-you-want basis via AllFather’s Bandcamp page but with the disclaimer that there is far, far, better to come…

Exclusive Song Stream: Julie And The Wolf – Devil Is The Man

JtW Ablaze Artwork

Ghost Cult Magazine is proud to present the new single from mysterious ambient post-rock duo Julie And The Wolf. You can stream their track ‘Devil Is The Man’ at this link or below:

‘Devil Is the Man’ comes from Julie And The Wolf’s forthcoming début album Ablaze, releasing on October 30th from the Audiogram label. Imagine Nine Inch Nails’s Ghost EP, put through a filter of bands like Anathema and the mellower moments of ISIS and you begin to understand the framework of Julie And The Wolf’s mindset. Julie’s hypnotic, vulnerable piano lays the foundation for vocalist Wolf Merzbacher’s heart breaking vocals and lyrics. The meshing of the two talents is breathtaking.

Exclusive Song Stream: Prophets of Saturn- Witch Rider

Prophets of Saturn album cover high res HVSK-1208 copy

Ghost Cult is pleased to present an exclusive stream of a new track from Prophets of Saturn, ‘Witch Rider’. The song comes from their forthcoming album Retronauts (HeviSike Records), releasing on July 17th, and can be heard at this link or below via Soundcloud

Indicative of their style, ‘Witch Rider’ is a tripped-out, fuzz-laden jamfest where riffs rule, grooves slink and sway, and copious amounts of blotter tabs and shrooms might help you understand the lyrics. Fans of bands like Cream, Pentagram, St. Vitus, Red Fang, and Monster Magnet will dig Prophets of Saturn, big time.
