The 1990s brought a little Lawrence, Kansas band by the name of Paw, who put out two full-length albums 1993’s Dragline (which featured the catchy singles “Jessie” and “Couldn’t Know” that got moderate rotation on MTV as well as featuring in the computer game Road Rash) and 1995’s overlooked Death to Traitors. There were a couple of final releases in the shape of the Home is a Strange Place EP and the Keep the Last Bullet for Yourself odds and sods collection before the band’s eventual 2000 split. CONCERT REVIEW: Boris – Starcrawler Live at Racket NYC
10.23.24 – Racket NYC
This was a doozy of a weeknight show in Manhattan and we were gifted with over an hour of Boris and their amplified wall of sound. It’s crazy to think that it has been since 2001 since we haven’t gotten at least one yearly release from Boris in some form and this year’s Hello There collab (with Coaltar of the Deepers), live performance of Fade, and 2 years later, and Noise. All these releases dropping this year continue to prove how prolific of a band they are.
ALBUM REVIEW: Moskitos – Mirage
Regarding psych rock, I have heard some of the best bands ever. They seem to come primarily from every place except for America. I have seen amazing bands from Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Spain. For the first time, I’m hearing a band from Cape Cod, South Africa. ALBUM REVIEW: Nachtmystium – Blight Privilege
The problem with American Black Metal bands, is they are often comprised of Punk Rock kids from Brooklyn or any other hipster city, who appropriate the sonic aesthetics that work for their indie-rock sensibility lacking any sense of darkness. There are a few bands who have proved an exception Tombs, Weakling, and Nachtmystium. Blake Judd’s struggles with addiction are responsible for giving Nachtmystium its legitimacy his harrowing accounts of inner torment are far more intense than faux Satanism. After all, exorcising one’s demons can not be faked. Blight Privilege (Lupus Lounge) is Judd clawing his way back up from the abyss to make music again. This album might not be as experimental as his past work but it feels more honest.Continue reading

Celebrated Drummer Dale Crover has been performing with the Melvins since 1984 when he replaced founding member Mike Dillard, since then he’s had stints with Nirvana and collaborated in projects such as Shrinebuilder, Men of Porn and Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends. Furthermore, he performs with Redd Kross, and has embarked on a solo career, first with the Hard-Rock flavoured Altamont and then the eclectic, experimental compositions under his own name. INTERVIEW: Void Commander Discusses Their “Alien Queen” Album
It’s all-around captivating to explore the ever-dynamic, deeper cores of the Stoner Rock scene in Sweden, with various names surrounding– ranging from Skraeckoedlan, Besvärjelsen, to Truckfighters. But in case you haven’t heard of the emerging names, the Ghost Cult editorial team on behalf of Ralka Skjerseth had the chance to talk to the almighty three-piece Void Commander, a stoner rock act hailing from Karlskrona in the far south of Sweden! To this day, they have released four studio albums to note, with Alien Queen being the newest, released in early June. They incorporate elements of blues rock into their fuzz-laden, stoner-rooted sounds and combine them with sludgy guitar tones. Presenting psychedelic-nuanced imagery accompanied by surrealism that would bring their listeners on a hazy cosmic odyssey, Void Commander and their laid-back sonic journey are ready to take over the world.. or even outer space.
