ALBUM REVIEW: Tombs – Feral Darkness

The new Tombs album, Feral Darkness (Redefining Darkness), is another chapter in the sonic tome chronicling Mike Hill‘s travels to throb of the abyss. To say this sounds like a Tombs album is a broad statement that neglects the stylistic shifting due in some part to the band’s revolving lineup. The first thing you might notice upon first listen is that there are fewer Black Metal moments. Instead, the album is driven by the kind of aggression that characterizes Death Metal. The vocal approach is not all guttural. Forceful declarations, not unlike what you might have heard on a Celtic Frost album. Continue reading

St. Louis has been under a heat advisory. The heat and humidity have conspired to create an oppressive feeling simply by leaving the house. It hurts to breathe. The car feels like hell on earth. Is there a better way to take in a Death Metal show? It’s time to put on your cargo shorts and get to it.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Sodom – The Arsonist

Seventeen albums in and German thrash legends Sodom are still out there throwing riffs like hand grenades, and singing about war while worshipping at the feet of Motörhead. Of course, after forty-plus years in the business, this is a very different band to who started out in 1982, and not just in terms of personnel. The raw, youthful enthusiasm of their early years has long since been replaced with maturity and experience.Continue reading

Sinsaenum (Mayhem, Daath, Loudblast) Return with New Single and Video “In Devastation” – Third Album Coming Soon

Extreme metal supergroup Sinsaenum have announced their long-awaited return with the release of their crushing new single, “In Devastation,” the title track of their forthcoming third studio album, due out August 8th, 2025, via earMUSIC. The release marks the band’s first new material since the tragic passing of legendary drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls) in 2021. Both the single and album serve as a cathartic tribute to Jordison and to guitarist and founder Frédéric Leclercq’s late father, whose deaths profoundly shaped the emotional and creative direction of the project. Check out the single and music video for “In Devastation” below. Continue reading
