Hellfest 2020 is Officially Canceled, 2021 Fest Announced

Crushing news for the summer festival season in Europe, as France’s legendary Hellfest, has been canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The festival announced today it was unable to host the festival, which takes place in Clisson, France, outside of Paris. Hellfest 2021 is already announced for next summer. The 2020 edition was to have had Faith No More, and Down will be joined by Deftones, System Of A Down, Incubus, Korn, Mastodon, Opeth, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, The Offspring, Infectious Grooves, The Darkness, Obituary, Death DTA (the Death tribute featuring members of Death), At The Gates, Entombed AD, Sacred Reich, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Mayhem, Abbath, Rotting Christ, Primordial, The Great Old Ones, Wardruna, The Hu, Taake, Watain, Alcest, Borknagar, Gaahl’s Wyrd, Electric Wizard, Baroness, Om, Witchcraft, Black Mountain, Elder, ASG, Envy, Mono, John Garcia & the Band of Gold, High On Fire, Pelican, Killing Joke, Perturbator, Life of Agony, 3TEETH, Inter Arma, Body Count, Suicidal Tendencies, Youth of Today, Slapshot, Jesus Piece, Higher Power, Social Distortion, Anti-Flag, Agnostic Front, Reverend Horton Heat, Grade 2, Code Orange, and more. Members of High on Fire and Mastodon Tease a Team-Up

This is not a drill! Matt Pike of High on Fire/SLEEP and Brent Hinds of Mastodon are apparently working on some music together! The photo was posted by Hinds on Instagram and then shared on the High On Fire Facebook account. Mastodon is working on new music, with a new album expected in late 2020 or 2021. High on Fire is still touring behind their epic 2018 album Electric Messiah (eOne Music)  The caption teased “something special for all you guys! Stay tuned for more photos,videos&tunes Who knows what these guys are kicking up together, be it music for their respective bands, or some new supergroup. Hasbro Completes Their Acquisition of Entertainment One Records Ltd. (eOne)

In a story we reported several months ago, Hasbro has completed their acquisition of Entertainment One (eOne Records, eOne Heavy) and their properties. The move adds more global brands to Hasbro’s cadre of entertainment offerings. Originally founded as music distributor Records on Wheels in 1970, but today has a plethora of well-known music, film, and television brands. eOne’s music offerings includes the libraries of Artemis Records, Death Row Records, and Dualtone Records as well as Grammy winners High on Fire, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Zakk Wyle’s Black Label Society, Crowbar, Ace Frehley, The Blue Stones, Arkells, The Bloody Beetroots, Lights, The Game, Teagan and Sara and more.

Sleep Leaks End of Year Shows in Chicago, Teases Going on Hiatus

Doom Metal greats Sleep have leaked three shows for the end of 2019 in Chicago at Thalia Hall. The band also shared a cryptic message to social media, teasing the band going on a possible indefinite hiatus. No official announcement has been made, but Facebook events for the three shows appeared this weekend (11/10/2019). The band returned from an eleven-year hiatus in 2009, and have toured semi-regularly for years, releasing a live album – Denver Colorado, The Clarity single (2014), an incredible full-length album The Sciences in 2018, the Leagues Beneath single (also 2018) and a second live album, Live at Third Man Records, released as part of Third Man’s exclusive Vault series. The band also played a career-spanning series of shows at 2019’s Roadburn Festival. Hopefully, this is not the end of the band, just the end of the band for now while the members’ other projects such as OM, High On Fire, and Neurosis come to the fore. Continue reading →

REVIEW: Psycho Las Vegas 2019 – Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

As far as large multi-day fests go, Psycho Las Vegas is still pretty wet behind the ears having only just had their fourth annual incarnation this August but already it has begun growing into what will likely continue to be the summer juggernaut of partying and music. New this year, to the dismay of many, was the location change from the off the strip and perfectly themed haunt, The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, to the megaplex that is Mandalay Bay. Gone is the feeling of a true fest take over and in its place, a sprawling amalgamation of “psychos” and people from any town USA or abroad there simply to gamble, throw pre-wedding bashes, get drunk or maybe attend a conference (*ahem* “conference”). Once everyone got their bearings and navigated through this corporate mega casino/hotel/shopping mall, pushed back a few drinks or whatever preferred substances they were into, and found the locations of the four stages, the complaining ebbed and instead, people experienced the fest for what it is. Ghost Cult is once again honored to be part of Psycho Las Vegas, a goddam heavy metal casino/beach party extravaganza if there ever was one. The filth of Rock, Sludge, Doom, Trad, Hardcore, Prog, and Stoner Metal genres and the glitz of Vegas- baby, all rolled into one. Headlined by Original Misfits, Opeth, Electric Wizard, Corrosion of Conformity, Bad Religion, YOB, Lucifer, High on Fire, GsY!BE, Clutch, Carcass, Triumph of Death, Graveyard, ASG, Primitive Man, Deafheaven, Kadavar, Vio-Lence, Soft Kill, Andrew W.K., Tomb Mold, Power Trip, Full of Hell, and a ton more bands, it promises to be a rager.
