INTERVIEW: Pat Harrington of Geezer on “Stoned Blues Machine” – and More!

Kingston New York’s perfect power house trio Geezer returned in 2022 with one of the most rewarding rock releases of the year, Stoned Blues Machine. The band has become arguably the backbone of the small surviving scene of hard rock torch bearers in their Upstate, New York locale and are due mad respect for their latest achievement within the wider underground. Think no nonsense frills, mind-bending solos and huge stoner riffs with equal parts fun groove and heavy execution. That still will not prepare you for the brotherhood of Geezer’s tones, presence or general big feel vibes. If you are a fan of Corrosion of Conformity’’s Deliverance (Columbia) era or classic Fu Manchu stuff, this band is a no brainer for you. If lightning can strike twice and another stoner band ever win besides High On Fire, give these hombres a Grammy!

Brume, Geezer, Mother Iron Horse, Howling Giant, Green Druid and Greenbeard Are All Booked for Desertfest NYC

Desert Fest NYC – the US version of the classic European stoner doom festival has added their final bands and set their daily lineups. Brume, Geezer, Mother Iron Horse, Howling Giant, Green Druid, and Greenbeard are all added to the bill while Fatso Jetson has dropped off the bill. You can also see the daily lineups on the poster below. 4-day passes are sold out but 3-day and single-day passes are on sale now. Black Sabbath Bassist Geezer Butler to Release Solo Material Boxset: “Manipulations Of The Mind” Boxset

Legendary Black Sabbath bassist and lyricist Terry “Geezer” Butler will released a 4-cd boxed set of his classic solo albums, along with an extra disc of rare material. The releases are also compiled in a best of release as well. Manipulations Of The Mind  and The Very Best Of Geezer Butler will be released July 30th via BMG! Featuring the albums ‘Plastic Planet’ (1995), ‘Black Science’ (1997), and ‘Ohmwork’ (2005), with a bonus 4th disc of rare and largely unreleased material, ‘Manipulations Of The Mind’ will give fans a true insight into Geezer’s work outside the Sabbath context in that classic solo era. Black Sabbath to Hold “Black Sabbath” 50th-Anniversary Album Listening Sessions ‘In The Dark’

Black Sabbath has announced Black Sabbath 50th-Anniversary album listening sessions ‘In The Dark’ as BMG and Pitchblack Playback prepare to kick off the 50th-anniversary celebrations for the father of the Metal genres. Fifty years, over 70 million records sold worldwide and with an incredible musical legacy, Sabbath, BMG and Pitchblack Playback confirm two commemorative 50th-anniversary album listening sessions for their debut self-titled album, “Black Sabbath”, to be held “in the dark” on February 11. The sessions will take place at Number 10 in the London, England borough of Hackney starting at 7:30 and 8:30 and the album will be played back in MQA high definition audio. Descendants Of Crom Festival 2018, Various Venues, Pittsburgh PA

Sojourning to the Steel City, where the steel these days is mostly from the music, Descendants of Crom Festival enjoyed a second annual event recently and Ghost Cult was there. From the pre-fest gala and parking lot party (think of a modern “Heavy Metal Parking Lot” with stoner rock and doom fans), three nights of badassery at both Howlers and the Cattivo club, it was a rager. Shout out to the sponsors Blackseed Records and Riff Relevant among others. Highlights of the weekend included sets from Heavy Temple, Howling Giant, Doomstress, Come to Grief, Thunderbird Divine, Toke, Geezer, Duel, but really you can’t really go wrong with a deep lineup like this. Blackseed Records Presents the Descendants of Crom Festival, a three-day underground heavy music festival is taking over Pittsburgh, PA this coming weekend for its second annual event. Billing itself as “A Gathering Of Rock, Doom, Sludge, And Metal” in the Steel City, Descendents of Crom Fest takes place September 27th to 29th at Howlers and Cattivo clubs and features Mos Generator, Lo-Pan, Duel, Come To Grief, Heavy Temple, Worshipper, Devil To Pay, Freedom Hawk, Disenchanter, Geezer and many more.
