It has been a decade since we last received an album from the Southern act Becoming the Archetype. This Georgia-based band is known for their unconventional methods of banging out heavy riffs while proclaiming a positive message. Their last release, I AM was well received with its proggy frills and edgy tech cadences. They gained some attention for their unique ways, so it was a pity when they pressed the pause button in 2013. After taking an indefinite hiatus and going through another lineup change, the boys are now back with their sixth full-length record, Children of the Great Extinction (Solid State Records). ALBUM REVIEW: Bekor Qilish – Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism
As though transmitted from a parallel dimension, Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism (I, Voidhanger Records) – the debut record by Bekor Qilish – is a strange and magnificent avant-garde metal beast. The brainchild of Italian vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Andrea Bruzzone, Bekor Qilish is a solo project, aided by a smattering of key collaborators — who add colour to Bruzzone’s already mesmeric creation. Whether the term “extreme” or “avant-garde” fits better, Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism is a whirlwind of creativity and impressive technicality.

Amorphis is one of those bands that marches to the beat of their own drum. They are a major-league act that has elegantly evolved over the years and is known for their ever-developing style. They are beloved because they master innovation while remaining tried and true to their uncommon sound. For over three decades, this six-piece has accomplished the reputation of being one of the main contributors to establishing the Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal genre. Looking through their delightfully diverse discography, it’s a small wonder as to why they have gained such acclaim.

In more Coronavirus cancellation news, Fleshgod Apocalypse is the latest band feeling the sting of the global health crisis. Due to travel restrictions implemented in response to the spread of COVID-19, “Coronavirus” the bands’ highly anticipated tour with a classical string quartet for the first time ever, will now take place at a later date to be announced as plans are confirmed. Fleshgod Apocalypse Books North American Tour with The Agonist
Symphonic Death Metal band Fleshgod Apocalypse has booked a full US tour for 2020, with direct support from The Agonist. Unique to this tour, Fleshgod will be joined by a classical string quartet to bring their album sound into the live setting even more than ever! The band released their new album Venelo this year via Nuclear Blast Records. Check out the dates below. The tour begins in Dallas, TX on March 16th and culminates in Los Angeles on April 6th.
