We can’t delve quite into Year of the Knife’s No Love Lost (Pure Noise Records) without addressing the unfortunate accident that this Delaware collective endured this Summer. For those not in the know consult the internet and read up on what happened in Salt Lake City this July.
Thy Art is Murder has fired controversial vocalist Chris “CJ” McMahon and replaced him on their new album Godlike with an as yet unnamed new front person. The album was released today via Nuclear Blast Records as a surprise with the new vocalist. CJ was fired for his recent transphobic comments and a history of other issues, setting him at odds with the band.
Metal is allowed to be fun, especially when three heavyweights collide in a tri-split that not only features original songs from each, but unlikely cover tracks which allow for displays of versatility.

Say what you like about Slipknot / Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor, whose ubiquity and happiness to share his thoughts on any and every subject put before him may well have contributed to his divisive standing, his love of music and willingness to represent the full spectrum of his tastes in his output is to be admired. And, while relentless touring may have previously restrained the recorded output, making the most of the opportunity to spend more time in the studio, the past couple of years have seen a rawkier debut solo record, and this sister piece.
Australian Death Metallers The Impaler will release their brutal new full-length album A Fate Worse Than Death, releases this Friday, February 19th, 2021. The band just dropped a sick video for their new single “Mourn” featuring legendary vocalist CJ Mcmahon of Thy Art Is Murder. Good news/bad news out of the Thy Art is Murder camp. The band is currently on tour in the USA with Architects and While She Sleeps, but vocalist CJ will drop off the tour and return home to be with his wife for the impending birth of their child. With around twenty years and now eleven albums to their name, it is safe to say that Caliban are Metalcore stalwarts. Yet they remain one of the genre’s overlooked, even near forgotten, names. Having never reached the commercial success or the attention levels of the likes of a Killswitch Engage back in the day, the current resurgence in Metalcore today still sees them majorly overshadowed whilst While She Sleeps, Of Mice & Men and others ascend, even as far as to arena level in the latter’s case. Nevertheless, Caliban has always proven to be a reliable entity who continuously deliver strong (if not ground-breaking nor game-changing) material, with The Undying Darkness (All Blacks) and Say Hello To Tragedy (Century Media) being particularly strong efforts.Continue reading
