Ghost Cult Keefy interviewed Metal legend Jim Fergades of Morbid Saint! Their new album “Swallowed By Hell” was released earlier in 2024 by Highroller Records! We discussed Morbid Saint’s influence and impact as a second wave of American Thrash Metal, their new album, classics like “Spectrum of Death!” The band just played Hells Heroes Festival and has dates booked in 2024, with 2025 tours and festival planning underway! 🤘Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: The Absence – The Absence
Every so often, I get a message from the captain here at Ghost Cult to potentially squeeze in a review. Let’s just say, this was an easy “sure thing” when I saw it was the new, self-titled album by The Absence (Listenable Insanity Records). While it has been a while since I last listened to these Floridian thrash-meets-melodic-death-metalers, the lineup has seen some big changes outside of vocalist Jamie Stewart and returning drummer Jeramie Kling. The good news: we all get another thirty-seven minutes worth of killer, groovy, riff-tastic, death metal!Continue reading
CONCERT REVIEW: Voivod – Prong – Hirax Live at The UC Theatre Berkeley
I headed out to Berkeley for a night of good old-fashioned Thrash and Progressive metal, in what was to be my most anticipated concert of early 2024. None of these bands have ever disappointed me, and I had no reason to believe tonight would be any different. I was pleasantly surprised that the show was nearly sold out. And after a quick stop by the merch table led me to find out sales were brisk, but also that Prong’s excellent recent album State of Emergency (Napalm Records) was sold out for the entire tour and may not be repressed by the label. This is a total bummer but I’m stoked for all the sales, and glad I got one on pre-order when the record came out. Tommy Victor also remarked from the stage the new album was hard to find now. Feel free to check out our recent interviews with Tommy and the good old times we shared.Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: Perpetua – Resurgence
Scotland: a country of rolling hills and glens; forests, moorlands, and mountains. A people surrounded and enriched by a proud cultural history.
Also Scotland: bad weather, heroic levels of alcohol consumption, and a widely held intolerance of English politics and sporting teams. Also, Metal. Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: BRAT – Social Grace
Where to start with BRAT? The potential is on the wall as I don’t recall too many bands that get to release their debut LP – Social Grace, by the way – via Prosthetic Records. And bear in mind that this is an outfit that formed right before the golden days of the Coronavirus pandemic so it’s not like they’ve been toiling away in the dark for the better part of a decade. So, therefore, these kids must have the goods. Continue reading
PODCAST: Glacially Musical #171 – Slayer: “Seasons In The Abyss” or Crucial Album Number 5

ALBUM REVIEW: Judas Priest – Invincible Shield
While the philosophy of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” might work for some bands, UK metal gods Judas Priest are clearly not counted among them. Rarely repeating themselves from record to record, Priest have always preferred creativity over repetition, unafraid to take risks even when some level of criticism inevitably follows.
ALBUM REVIEW: Exhorder – Defectum Omnium
After returning from hiatus with the rather good comeback album Mourn The Southern Skies in 2019, New Orleans Thrash Metal legends Exhorder are at it again with new album Defectum Omnium (Nuclear Blast Records) – thankfully not making us wait another twenty-seven years. Continue reading
INTERVIEW: Crysis Talks About Their Upcoming Album, Future Shows, and Thrash Culture
With each decade comes its own corresponding music genres. Some genres fade with the passage of time, but it’s often that certain sounds persevere, mostly because of artists that keep them alive. Thanks to Crysis, old school metal is burning bright in their home city of Columbus, Ohio, and the brightest flames can be found within younger generations of metalheads.Continue reading
