50 Years Ago Jimi Hendrix Released “Electric Ladyland”
By mid-1968 Jimi Hendrix was in the midst of a transformation as an artist. After being shunned early in his career, his meteoric rise on the strength of his two previous albums with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love (both Track Records) was brilliant, but by all accounts had left him drained. Jimi was a creative genius and always looking for the next mountain to climb as an artist. While preparing what would become his ambitious double album Electric Ladyland (Reprise/Track), Hendrix began gravitating towards a style and sound that would influence the remaining years of his life. While still pulling heavily from the Blues, he was beginning to incorporate more Folk, Funk, and experimental styles of music that indicated where he was going in the future.Continue reading

Whilst there is no pre-requisite for nominative determinism in music when you call your band Lucifer, you do set a bit of an expectation that your sound is going to, at the very least, a bit dark and evil. The Rolling Stones Paint It Black Appears In HBO’s Westworld
SPOILER ALERT! If you are not caught up on HBO’s Westworld Season 2, then read no further. Last night on the much-anticipated episode ‘Akane No Mai’, a rendition of The Rolling Stones classic ‘Paint It Black’ was used. Last year it was used in a crucial episode as a chamber music version. This time it was reimagined as a classic Japanese theme, matching their visit to “Shogun World”. Composer Ramin Djawadi used all Japanese instrumentation to bring this version to life. Goldenvoice Confirms – No Desert Trip II In 2017
According to a news report from Billboard Magazine, Desert Trip, the music festival jokingly called “Oldchella” will not be making a return in 2017. The festival made a huge return on their investment, and drew an audience of over 150,000 for a high-end festival experience and had the likes of Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, Roger Waters, and Neil Young at the Empire Polo Club in Coachella Valley, Indio, California is officially not coming back for round two.Continue reading

Blue and Lonesome hits stores today, and the overall response to the 25th studio album by The Rolling Stones has been extremely positive. The legends returned to their blues upbringing, and created an amazing record full of ’50s-era deep cuts from the likes of Jimmy Reed, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Magic Sam.
