Dimmu Borgir’s The Grand Serpent Rising Tour kicked off on August 7 at The Palladium Times Square, and New York marked the occasion the only way it knows how. As the doors opened, the Times Square sky split open and dropped a full downpour, a cleansing for everyone waiting to get in. If you needed a sign that something significant was about to happen inside, this city provided one.
Lengthy gaps between albums are becoming quite the custom with Norwegian symphonic black metal act Dimmu Borgir. Not satisfied with the eight-year absence between Abrahadabra and 2018’s Eonian, the band took the same amount of time to write and produce a new record, Grand Serpent Rising (Nuclear Blast Records), before finally unleashing it upon an expectant corpse-painted world.
