FESTIVAL REVIEW: Bloodstock Open Air Part 2 – Live at Catton Hall
SATURDAY:
After I visit the bust of Lemmy in the RAM Gallery, Brazilian death metallers Crypta are in full flow on the main stage, tearing through the likes of “Lift the Blindfold” and “From the Ashes”, casually stripping away any vestiges of third-day fatigue. And if that wasn’t the perfect wake-up call, then there”s always Bay Area thrashers Forbidden who blast through the likes of “Forbidden Evil,” “Twisted Into Form,” and “Step By Step” aided by summer recruit Dan “Chewy” Mongrain of Voivod. A great show, although a time overrun means we are deprived of the classic “Chalice of Blood.”Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Mister Misery – Mister Misery
Right from its earliest days, metal has walked hand in claw with the horror genre. Often supported by costumes, props and a general Grand Guignol-style theatricality, a veritable plethora of acts have walked this same dark, bloody road over the years, many still continuing to do so.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Ministry – HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES
Ministry’s long career began back in 1981 and has seen many different incarnations over the proceeding 43 years with the one constant of producer/singer/multi-instrumentalist Al Jourgensen steering the ship throughout. It’s fair to say the band have had to navigate some severely choppy waters over the decades, with a revolving door style policy of other personnel joining the larger-than-life frontman in his lifelong musical pursuit, and with various controversies never too far away.Continue reading

Marilyn Manson Ordered To Pay Over $325,000 In Evan Rachel Wood’s legal fees
Wood’s legal fees mounted during Manson’s ongoing defamation lawsuit against her. Marilyn Manson – real name Brian Warner – who counter-sued Wood, has been ordered by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to pay $326,956 of Evan Rachel Wood’s legal fees. According to a report by Rolling Stone, Wood’s legal fees were racked up during Manson’s ongoing defamation lawsuit against her. The financial damage could’ve been worse to Manson, but Judge Teresa A. Beaudet ordered nearly $60,000 of Wood’s full claim not to be paid, saying that some of the lawyers’ billed hours were “vague.” Manson has been battling legal issues for years and is still under investigation by the LA County’s Sheriff’s office. ALBUM REVIEW: South of Salem – Death of the Party
With a distinctly American sound and name, you might believe South of Salem hail from sunnier US climes rather than from right here in the good old UK. Only really notable for its beaches and a football team of intermittent quality, Bournemouth might not be a seething hive of metal activity but it is home to one of the best up and coming bands of the last few years.
