ALBUM REVIEW: END – The Sin of Human Frailty

Sometimes a good ol’ dose of angry music is what the doctor ordered. This year certainly had some bangers of this category, but one of the best so far is END’s latest effort, The Sin of Human Frailty (Closed Casket Activities). Thirty minutes of sonic aggression comes jam-packed in the form of this metalcore supergroup’s sophomore full-length.

ALBUM REVIEW: Capra – Errors

When Capra burst onto the Hardcore scene back in 2021 with their debut album, In Transmission, they displayed whole-heartedly, what the best things are about the subgenre today. Riffs that make you want to start chaos wherever you go, and the emotive vocals from Crow Lotus, made Capra one of the stand-out newcomers in 2021.

ALBUM REVIEW: Blood Command – World Domination

World Domination is a big old task. Both in terms of, um, well, actually taking over the world, but also in terms of taking everything about the fifth full-length from Norwegian collective Blood Command in. Twenty tracks, and everything from Black Metal to slick pop, via snarling punk, metallic stomping Hardcore, and even the odd pause for breath (though only a sharp intake before heading off somewhere else, into urban beats, or shimmery synths, or kicking someone’s head in).

ALBUM REVIEW: Harm’s Way – Common Suffering

Normally I defend how anger is not the only emotion found in heavy music, but the new Harm’s Way album, Common Suffering (Metal Blade) is full-force rage, so strap on a helmet and get ready to fall into madness. Through the years, the Chicago-based band has really hit their stride with an even mixture of death metal and hardcore punk, bonded together by industrial blasts.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Serration – Simulations Of Hell

Scientists generally agree that the Big Bang, which occurred roughly 13.7 billion years ago, kick-started the creation of the universe as we know it today. Well, now we also know what the Big Bang sounded like.

CONCERT REVIEW: Mr. Bungle – Battles Live at The Fillmore

Something I always do is avoid using “I” in a review. I always avoid talking in the first person and just give a description of the show and let the reader form an opinion. I recently got the opportunity to see Mr. Bungle in Philadelphia and they are no ordinary band so this will not be an ordinary review.

ALBUM REVIEW: Corey Taylor – CMF2

CMFT2 (Decibel Cooper / BMG) is the second solo album from one of the largest mouths in Metal, a musician who you might have thought had all bases covered for his creative output by virtue of being the frontman in two wildly successful bands.

CONCERT REVIEW: GBH – Svetlanas – Niis – The Modifiers Live at Garden Amp

Punk icons GBH entertained several generations of fans at the accomadating and fun Garden Grove, CA-based open-air Garden Amp venue on Friday night. In tow were several up-and-coming or established younger acts to keep an eye on and to help the Birmingham baddies celebrate the City Babys Revenge 40th Anniversary US Tour in style. The all-ages event was an almost pitch-perfect celebration of punk’s forever appeal and staying power.

EP REVIEW: American Nightmare – Dedicated to the Next World

Existential dread, class war, and alienation? Seems like a great time for some new American Nightmare. The storm clouds of tomorrow loom over this fantastic new EP from the beloved hardcore (with post-punk sprinkles) institution on their latest release Dedicated To The Next World (Heartworm Press).
