Baroness Teases Potential New Album News
Baroness has been working on their new album, due later this year via their label, Abraxan Hymns. The band has been teasing some possible news via Instagram where they have been posting their classic albums Red, Blue, Yellow & Green; with the corresponding Pantone Colors in the text area. We speculated that the next album in the series would be “Orange” following the classic color wheel “ROYGBIV” since the only two colors left (they already have an album for Violet or Purple) would be Orange or Indigo, which can be a shade of blue or purple. We don’t really mind whatever they want to call the album, we’re just excited for some new Baroness music! The band kicks off their co-headline tour soon with Deafheaven. and Zeal and Ardor.Continue reading

Old Man Lizard – True Misery
For an album titled True Misery (Wasted State Records), Old Man Lizard never sound like they’re sticks in the mud or total bummers. I mean there are patches of Sabbath gloom all throughout this third LP, but it never reaches Primitive Man suicide watch levels of anguish. And maybe it doesn’t have to either.Continue reading
Impact Music Festival 2018 Recap
Bringing together the best bands in the world and socially conscious music fans, Impact Music Festival’s debut edition was a rousing success. The successor to the Rise Above Festival by the same organizers- Music Matters, had incredible bands, thousands of rock and metal fans, the “arrest” of Marilyn Manson (not really), and the fewest complaints of a music festival in recent memory in Maine. Check out our recap with EXCLUSIVE photos by Evil Robb Photography.Continue reading
Fortarock 2018 – Nijmegen, Netherlands
Having a thriving metal scene and more gigs on an area the size of a pinprick on a globe, it’s surprising that the Netherlands doesn’t really have any big outdoor summer metal festivals, like Wacken, Hellfest and Graspop, ever since Dynamo Metalfest called it quits and recently revived in super small-scale all we’ve had is Fortarock. With its three stages and two-day lineup, it’s still charmingly small for the big boys, but it manages to pull impressive headliners and after having taken a break for one year, it sure is back in 2018.Continue reading

Rock on the Range Live at Mapfre Stadium
What began at Crew Stadium in 2007 as a one day festival with 14 bands has evolved into a three-day festival with around 60 bands each year. Since its humble beginnings of Rock on the Range, it has sold out. In 2007, the fest sold out at only 30,000 tickets compared to this year’s 140,000 tickets. ROTR has become the “mecca” of rock fests on the east coast. Rockers AKA “Rangers” migrate by the thousands to Mapfre Stadium in Ohio from across the globe to attend. A spiritual pilgrimage of sorts for die-hard rock fans perhaps? I can only speak for myself, but it is an amazing experience to embrace the many cultures.
