Jinjer’s latest US tour brought a blend of musical tastes that delivered on many levels. As before, I bought the meet and greet package for this run. This one ended up being a bit more special. Being limited to 15 people per venue, this current iteration included an exclusive VIP shirt, signed poster, a Jinjer bag, photo ops and you could bring up to five items to be signed. But the most intriguing part of this package was being able to watch their soundcheck, which included the songs “Pearls and Swine” and “Pieces!” It was nothing short of magical. It was akin to having the band playing just for you in an intimate setting. Afterwards, we were able to go on stage and see what the bands sees as they stare out into the vast venue playing for the fans. Another plus was being able to talk with all the band members and ask questions about anything. Hope they continue with this version of meet and greets, it’s truly something that I want to experience again.Continue reading

CONCERT REVIEW: KK’s Priest – Accept Live at Ace of Spades
What do you get when it’s all leather and zero lace? KK’s Priest! You know what you are about to experience and for me… It was my first time seeing KK Downing (KK) in action and I wasn’t disappointed in the least. As for the beast of a vocalist, Tim “Ripper” Owens (Ripper)… He is part of the Judas Priest history, despite the fact you can’t find those albums as easily or online… Ripper was chosen as the rightful heir to the legacy that Rob Halford, established decades ago, back in the nineties, because he could do what most mortal men cannot… He not only sang those classic tracks he created his own chapter and when you close your eyes… Ripper Owens… Owns your ears.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Blitzkrieg – Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg, the on-and-off NWOBHM veterans much loved by Metallica, are back with their new self-titled album (Mighty Music). Much like AC/DC do and Motörhead, did, Blitzkrieg stick to what they know – which is classic metal of a decidedly eighties vintage that fans of Diamond Head, Judas Priest, and Saxon will know and appreciate.Continue reading

CONCERT REVIEW: OTTTO – Bastardane Live at The House of Blues Chicago
On August 10th OTTTO and Bastardane – both prominent groups within the modern hard rock scene – came to Chicago in light of their current Reconquest Tour. The two rock outfits are no strangers to touring together, as both bands played together the previous summer as well. The Reconquest Tour sees both Bastardane and OTTTO in new fashions, but when it comes to each group’s signature sound, talent and onstage energy – those matters remain the same.Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: Hatchend – Summer of ‘69
A new group, known simply as Hatchend, has forcibly hatched its way into existence with members from differing death metal and grindcore bands. The debut album, Summer of ‘69 (Selfmadegod Records) dropped and it goes full throttle for thirty-three minutes. Bringing in their previous influences and dumping them on top of crossover foundations sets up quite the demolition derby of sound.Continue reading
