UK Death Metal leaders Venom Prison have opted to move their previously scheduled early 2021 tour dates to October 2021 due to COVID-19. Direct support will continue to come from special guests Creeping Death and Leeched. All ticket holders’ current tickets will be valid for dates later in the year. The band recently released their album Primeval (Prosthetic Records) and we recently interviewed vocalist Larissa Stupar for our podcast which you can check out here.

2015 proved to be a productive year for the Russian/Welsh act, Venom Prison when they released not one, but two EPs. Their ambition has continued to grow since then by deftly demonstrating the cunning and extreme of their Modern Death Metal sound. This budding band made noticeable waves in the scene when they released their second full-length, Samsara (Prosthetic Records) last year. Vocalist Larissa Stupar presented this rare rage that she and the whole band developed into a massive, contagious fury. Now, these guys are ready to exhibit how much they’ve grown in the last five years. Primeval (Prosthetic Records) is a compilation of their first two Eps re-recorded and reinvigorated.
When I first heard Four Stroke Baron, I had no idea they were going to be one of my favorite finds of the year. “What kind of a name is that?” I thought, bracing for the worst. Man, was I floored by what I found. A pummeling barrage of progressive metal with crushing riffs and a blazing 1980’s synth crescendos that just don’t quit, yet really lit my fire was the vocals. Bucking the metal cliche of trying to come off as heavy and bröötal as possible, vocalist Kirk Witt delivers powerful lyrics in a meek and almost anxious style that puts you on edge and adds a sense of forlorn urgency to many of the tracks.
Epic Doom Metal band Vile Creature have launched a new livestream series and fully immersive interactive experience last night. If you missed the debut last night, the band will be in residency for the next few weeks and had the video of a choose your own adventure book mixed with heavy music. It was brilliant. There’s a suggested donation of $7, but no one will be turned away. There was also exclusive merch and new variants of their recent release, the excellent Glory, Glory! While Judicator’s fifth full-length offers their signature brand of historically themed Power/Prog Metal, it comes at a more personal angle this time around. The story of Let There Be Nothing (Prosthetic Records) is based on the life of Belisarius, a 6th century Byzantine general who reclaimed remnants of the Western Roman Empire while wrestling with a crippling marriage. The album never quite reaches the catharsis of 2015’s At The Expense Of Humanity, but it’s nice to see their Blind Guardian worship be tempered with a little extra pathos.Continue reading
Prosthetic Records has signed Irish modern thrashers, Gama Bomb, who are currently preparing to record an album for release in the fall. They dropped a new standalone single,’Living For The Lockdown’, that will benefit homelessness charity, Dublin Simon Community. Produced by guitarist Domo Dixon with additional drum production by the band’s long-term producer Scott Atkins (Cradle Of Filth, Sylosis), and featuring the band’s former drummer Paul Caffrey, ‘Living For The Lockdown’ is available to stream everywhere from today. Never judge a book by its cover, kids. It’s a good lesson. Listen to your mother more often, you’ll learn something. I only bring up this time-worn adage because I was too quick and judged Schammasch‘s latest Hearts of No Light (Prosthetic Records) based on the merits of album title and art. What? I saw it and therefore immediately assumed it was another self-important Black Metal release that would ultimately sound like it was recorded in an old washing machine filled with loose gravel, nails and an uncomfortable badger.
