Portal are one of the most important Death Metal bands in the world.

In a genre as conservative as Heavy Metal it is no surprise that lists of influential bands generally don’t go beyond a pre-approved set of “classics”, but Portal have earned their place among the Deaths and Morbid Angels. Over four albums and nearly fifteen years, they took Death Metal apart and reassembled the pieces into nightmarish, abstract shapes that for the first time managed to sound how the artwork looked. Like most innovators, it took time for their impact to sink in, but over the last few years they have – quite against their will, it seems – triggered a mini-trend of impersonators and left Death Metal in quite a different place than it was in 2013 when Vexovoid (Profound Lore), was released.Continue reading

When frontman David Vincent returned to the Morbid Angel fold in 2004, there was much rejoicing. When the result of this reunion, the ill-fated Illud Divinium Insanus (Season of Mist) surfaced in 2011, there was considerably less rejoicing. Morbid Angel Debut New Song Off “Kingdoms Disdained”


Morbid Angel has now confirmed that they will be unleashing their new record, Kingdoms Disdained, on December 1st via UDR Music. This album will be the first to feature bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker since 2003’s Heretic, and marks the recording debut for guitarist Dan Vadim Von and drummer Scott Fuller with the band. The group already gave fans a taste of what to expect when they performed ‘Warped’ on their recent headlining tour, and now the first single from the upcoming record has made its way online.Continue reading
