As the dust begins to settle on what will undoubtedly go down in a history as a fine year for heavy and progressive music, the Ghost Cult crew present our favourite albums of 2017. While a year with only a couple of genuine life-changing, genre redefiners, nevertheless 2017 has seen an absolute plethora of very, very high quality releases. With over 400 albums reviewed this year, at an average of 7.5/10, there was a deep pool of quality releases selected and dissected throughout the year. The King Is Blind – We Are The Parasite, We Are The Cancer


I’ve been a fan of The King Is Blind for a while now. Their first full length Our father was one of my favourite albums of the year by a long way. Now hot on its heels they’re releasing their second album We Are The Parasite, We Are The Cancer (Calva Records). Thematically the album carries on the satanic concept of Our Father, but as before is far more than just the heavy metal trope of “woo Satan”! It very cleverly uses the imagery as a foundation for a scathing indictment of modern life. Continue reading


Grave, Naðra And Dodecahedron Added To Inferno Festival 2018


 

Swedish death metal titans Grave have been added to Norway’s Inferno Metal Festival 2018! They will play a special “30th anniversary old school set 1988 – 91” for their set during the fest. Also added to the impressive bill are Icelandic black metallers Naðra and Netherlands avant-garde black metal band Dodecahedron.Continue reading

Ihsahn, Djevel And Wiegedood Booked For Inferno Festival 2018


 

Inferno Festival 2018 continues to add to its impressive early lineup, now with Ihsahn, Djevel and Wiegedood bolstered to its ranks. Ihsahn will join his band, Emperor, already booked, in a separate performance over the weekend. The annual festival of black metal, death and doom will take place March 29th through April 1st next year.Continue reading

Roadburn Festival 2017 Part I, Tilburg Netherlands


Have your earplugs at the ready and put your day job put on hold, because the day we marked on our calendar 366 days ago has finally arrived. In the vibrant and ever-changing Dutch city of Tilburg, an influx of heavy music fans from all over the world are taking over the town as Roadburn Festival is ready to kick off. A couple of thousand people will spend their weekend sauntering between five magnificent stages, from the cushy cafes of Cul de Sac and Extase, to the wooden beams and stained glass windows of Het Patronaat and the two fabulous stages of music venue 013: the 3000-capacity monster main stage and it’s little quarter capacity brother The Green Room.
