ALBUM REVIEW: Louise Patricia Crane – Deep Blue

Cutting her professional teeth among serious pedigree as a member of Psych-Rock collective The Eden House Orchestra, the ethereal vocals of Belfast’s Louise Patricia Crane have dripped honey with such luminaries as Monica Richards and Julianne Regan. Debut solo album Deep Blue (Peculiar Doll Records) sees a host of Rock legends lend a hand to create a work of strange, wistful charm, paying due deference to a number of influences in the process.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: The Earth Below – Nothing Works Vol 2: Hymns for Useless Gods

Deepak Raghu is an extremely diverse, creative entity. His previous forays into Rock and Metal have embraced many outlying elements such as Americana, Folk, and Soul: on Nothing Works Vol 2: Hymns for Useless Gods (Unheard Music), his latest outing with solo project The Earth Below, he melds those traditional sounds with melodic weight, in turn baffling and eventually ensnaring the senses.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Myrkur – Folkesange

Amalie Brunn is a chameleon of the most striking, variant shades, which makes the English transalation of her of her alter-ego Myrkur (‘Darkness’) something of a paradox. That darkness, of course, comes from the Dane’s lyrical content, and frequent Black Metal incursions into the Folk-based music she peddles with wondrous feeling. New album Folkesange (Relapse Records), however, eschews the usual harsh accompaniment: focusing purely on her Scandinavian Folk roots and delivering a set of softened, heartfelt songs.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Diarchy – Splitfire

There’s a South Asian Metal renaissance afoot at present, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Stoner and Desert scenes. Splitfire (Unherd Music), the second long-player from Bangalore duo Diarchy, is the first release from new Indian label Unherd Music and gives the promise of an Eastern mysticism to some heavy grooves.Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Six Organs of Admittance Comp- anion Rises

As well as being a mainstay of Psych-Noise stalwarts Comets On Fire, and frequent collaborator with such Experimental artists as Current 93, Ben Chasny is frighteningly prolific in the guise of his solo Folk / Americana project Six Organs of Admittance. Latest album Companion Rises (Drag City) is a shimmering trip through the stars which enriches the soul.Continue reading

Marilyn Manson Shares New Single and Video “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”

Marilyn Manson, currently finishing his new album with Shooter Jennings has released a new single and music video for his take on the classic American folk song, ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’. Manson teamed again with director Tim Mattia once again for the cinematic black-and-white video filmed in Joshua Tree, California. ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ was recorded with producer Tyler Bates, who worked on 2015’s The Pale Emperor and 2017’s Heaven Upside Down. Singer William DuVall (Alice In Chains) Books Solo Tour Dates

William DuVall has already made a splash as a solo artist that looks to see him step out from his other gig as the co-lead singer of Alice In Chains. Duel – Valley Of Shadows

It’s a soulful, heavy trip with Texan quartet Duel. Formed largely from the ashes of Groove rockers Scorpion Child, new album Valley Of Shadows (Heavy Psych Sounds) is their third album in three years but despite the prolific nature, there remains a certain impact from the tracks on offer here.Continue reading

Danny Worsnop – Shades of Blue

The moment I received the press release for this album, I was über intrigued. I had heard the whisperings of a new project from Mr. Danny Worsnop, but nothing had come to fruition until now. I feel that I am a staunch Worsnop supporter and one who has followed his career from the start, and even I was taken by surprise by the tone of this album. I want to explain what I mean by that, so as to avoid any “bunching of undies” by his throng of fans. Danny first hit my radar in 2010 while he was still with Asking Alexandria, even from that first moment, I knew he was an enigma. I was hooked on Worsnop’s vocal style, as I am to this day.Continue reading
