Powerman 5000 – New Wave

Powerman 5000 have paved new roads for industrial rock over the years with their genre-blending of rock, metal, industrial, rap, and punk have been their forte since forming in 1991. Previous Powerman 5000 albums are fun with their energetic songs, lyrical shifts and the fluidity of riffs but New Wave (Pavement) tested my patience track after track. I caught a bit of a break with the fourth track, the shortest song ‘Thank God’ had more energy than the entire album… This 1 minute and 13 seconds slightly boosted my tolerance level for the album.Continue reading

Gang Of Youths’ David Bowie Cover Featured In Justice League Official Trailer

Much of the excitement at this past weekends’ New York Comic Con was about DC Comics Entertainment/Warner Brothers studios film Justice League, uniting the heroes Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg in a team-up. With the new official trailer dropped, aside from the non-stop action, the standout was Gang of Youths’ cover of David Bowie’s classic track ‘Heroes’. Watch the trailer and hear the track below:Continue reading

Marilyn Manson – Heaven Upside Down

Nearly a quarter-century into his career, Marilyn Manson continues to explore the grimy underside of humanity that makes other artists shy away to safety, and enthralls his fans. This is not an easy task and while his missteps have been very public, it would take a very jaded listener to find fault with the recorded consistency he has put down, especially of late. I’m not sure why 2015s The Pale Emperor (Hell, etc) took so many off guard; as if the man wasn’t capable of holding our attention any longer. That album exuded a mature brilliance; an almost “an elder statesman of rock” type of vibe. A modern classic rock album, the type we used to get often, but are now scarce since real rock gods are dead or in hiding. Manson is not ashamed to swing his sticky rock star dick around, but it’s his writing, lyrics and vocal delivery that really sent that album over the top. In some ways he has actually done one better on the follow-up, Heaven Upside Down (Loma Vista/Caroline International).Continue reading

PVRIS – All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell

What became of real pop stars? This is a question I have asked myself over and over the last few years. As we’ve lost Prince, George Michael, and David Bowie, and there is no new Madonna, Bjork, Sinead, Tori, or nary even an Alanis in sight, I wondered when the next generation of legends would come, if ever. A few years back I got turned on to PVRIS when I still lived in their home state of Massachusetts, and I heard White Noise right when it came out. Then I saw them live, and whoa, I was blown away by them. However, one of the hardest things to pull off in music is the second album. Sure you have your entire first act to create a sound and cultivate your style. People are fickle and expect a lot as fans. Much tougher to grow from that and keep it going, but PVRIS has pulled it off impressively. Continue reading

Wacken Open Air Crowd Pays Tribute to Lemmy Kilmister

The 2017 Wacken Open Air festival took place this past weekend in Germany, and did not disappoint. This year’s lineup included the likes of Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Emperor, Volbeat, Amon Amarth and Kreator, and over 70,000 people showed up to witness it all in person. Shortly after Alice Cooper‘s set, each and every one of those fans took part in a moving tribute to Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister. Continue reading
